Speaking of Malcome Kennedy... Whatever happened to tsip halfback Traylon Shead? Shead was much more highly regarded coming out of 1A Cayuga than Kennedy was.

What did Fran do with Texas HS coaches???

I worked for a TV station back then so I got to interview a ton of HS coaches. I can think of at least 4 coaches (3 HCs, 1 OC) who openly badmouthed him when they found out I was an Aggie. One of them told me he would discourage his players from going to A&M because of his Fran hate. These were big time 4A and 5A schools too. They and others indicated Fran would often come across as a condescending narcissist.

It was worse than that. When those coaches would give suggestions, Fran basically acted like he was better than them. Apparently he did that at TCU as well.

The shite Fran did is best left forgotten. I don't want to resuscitate that rage that I have repressed

Here is what Fran will always be remembered and hated for:

1. "The Wrecking Crew is dead" before coaching his first game

2. 77-0

3. 35-34 (first loss to Baylor in 20 years)

4. Kicking the extra point up ONE against Clemson with 3 minutes left in the game.

5. 42-14 (first and ONLY loss to Iowa State...at home)

6. Worst pass defense in college football (2005 season)

7. "I do this every week...SIR"

8. "Field Goal Fran" - kicking a FG down 4 late to Oklahoma with Lane on the bench on 4th and 1 from the OU 30.

9. Turning the best quarterback in the state of Texas into an Option QB...TWICE.

10. Worst bowl loss in A&M history...then loses his next bowl by an even larger amount.

11. Secret VIP newsletter.

12. Mike fricking McKenzie.

What was the deal with Mike McKenzie? I honestly don't remember. Maybe it's best that I don't, as I previously stated.

The personal biographer. The guy that ran "CoachFran.com". He was known as "FranObserver" on texags and went out of his way to attack anyone who questioned the coaching staff and make threatening phone calls to their places of business in some cases.

McKenzie ran Fran's website, newsletter, and maybe some other stuff. I got creeped out anytime I saw his fatass around.

Fran is the reason I hope we play Texas State someday...and beat them worse than John Heisman beat Cumberland College.

Sherman and Fran are examples of poor coaching jobs. A&M may have a winner on their hands with Sumlin or just plain lucky with Johnny F. Football. But will add this: A&M will definitely have to get its defense up to championship snuff to battle LSU & Bama, plus the titans of the eastern div. Im glad to see A&M being successful in their inaugural season and Mizzou has gotten a little tougher too...the SEC rubs off on folks...its either be tough or get dragged behind a woodshed every week.

Sumlin has benefited from two great quarterbacks. He was also left Case Keenum at Houston.

And unlike Sherman or Fran, he knows how to utilize them.

We lost 3 straight games in 2010, with Jerrod Johnson throwing wounded ducks all over the field, throwing 8 interceptions in 2 straight games, while Ryan Tannehill played wide receiver.

You know, Ryan Tannehill... the rookie starting QB for the Miami Dolphins, number 8 pick in the draft. That Ryan Tannehill.

Sherman could find offensive talent. However he was lacking in getting defensive talent or depth.

One thing Sumlin has done night day better than Sherman is the strength and conditioning program. This was to counter our lack of depth on D.

Sumlin also manages the overall game better. Sherman was the OC and he screwed up game management several times because of his OC duties, many which cost him games last year.

How about his (to paraphrase) "I don't know why everyone is so upset about losing, half the teams do it every week" post game presser. Does anyone have a video of that?

I'll give Sherman credit for being able to evaluate talent. He consistently proved recruiting services wrong because he could recognize potential and knew it had to be developed.

Look at Damontre Moore. No one knew about him till Sherman found him, and now he is going to go in the first round. Plenty of those examples to go around.

What I will not give him credit for is adjusting to the college game. Our offense wasn't bad but it was mistake prone mainly due to overthinking things from the complicated playbook. That may work in the NFL where you can coach all day. In college, your time is limited and these kids have school as well.
Its the biggest reason NFL coaches fail in the college game.
