Gus knew he would be offered the Auburn job within two or three years of leaving Auburn. I think that's one reason he went to stAte. It would be a way for him to get at least a brief time as a head coach before the job became available.
Who would have guessed that Arkansas would be looking for a coach soon afterward? But that is not my point.
This is:
What happened at Auburn happened sooner than Gus thought. Most people could see what was about to happen. Beyond any doubt, I know I did so I'm guessing Gus could see it too. He's no dummy. Had his sights been set on the Arkansas job, don't you think he would have chosen to coach somewhere besides stAte? It's not like he wasn't getting other offers.
Leaving stAte to go to Arkansas would have pissed off ALL the stAte fans (which a very high percentage are also Arkansas fans) and a significant portion of ours in the process. Gus knew what he was doing. His sights were set (and had been set) on Auburn all along IMO.
...and Bielema is a really good coach who wanted the job at Arkansas. I know you aren't happy about it but most fans from both schools are satisfied with their new hires.

Auburn has way more talent on its roster
Really? Its not been a problem for Arkansas to whip Auburns arse in Fayetteville or on the Plains. Arkansas has won 4/5 and 5/7. Arkansas is 5-3 at Auburn its last 8 trips.

coach who has coached in the SEC and proven he can win there
Gus has proven dick. Other than being 1-3 against his home state school as an opposing coach.
quote:
and last year we had Chizik coaching down our team.
bullshite. You just fricking sucked. 0-8 is not just a reflection on the staff, but a big reflection on the players. ZERO wins in conference play. ZERO.

BB hasn't shown he's a better coach than Gus
Have you fallen out of the dummy tree and hit every branch on the way down?
You're trying to tell people on this board that a coach who had won 3 straight Big Ten titles, 4 seasons of 10 wins or more, 5 seasons of 9 wins or more, 3 top 10 finishes, and 3 BCS bowl trips.....is not as good as a coach who has one year head coaching experience.....in the Sun Belt?
Are you actually that stupid?

Choctaw you were around in 2011 when the gus lead Auboffense was getting it's arse kicked and most all of the Au fans were wanting ole Gus gone. Making fun of his jet sweep right, jet sweep left and QB draw on 3-12. That Au needed to be back Auburn football. Hard nosed pro set run the ball and play action. Play great defense as well. many couldn't wait to get ole Gus bus gone. Rallied around the change of offense, the new OC and the Stache were gonna have Au playing old school, smash mouth beat up the opponent football. Wanted to be like Bama and LSU
Kinda funny who they went out and hired. A guy who runs a similar offense to the only team to beat Bama last year, a similar system that Saban has struggled against to a degree. Although I believe that Au was also limited in the number of coaches who wanted to go there after they shite canned the guy who had just 2 seasons removed won them their first NC in over 50 years.
Now the same guy the wanted gone as fast as possible is the greatest offensive coach ever and is gonna dominate. Ark with beat Au this year and I'm going to laugh my arse off at all the hell thy will catch from you pig fans.
There were two reasons Auburn hired Gus.
1. They couldn't hire a better and more established coach.
2. Gus knows where all the "illegal recruiting" skeletons are hidden during his time at Auburn. Having Gus at the helm ensures all those recruiting violations will remain in the closet.
I'm fairly sure that had Gus the Pius gone to another SEC team he would have already "sang like a bird" on Auburn's recruiting violations.

One of these coaches has a SEC Championship and NC ring and is in the Arkansas HOF . . . . . The other is Bret Bielema

Just cause Gus has not been coaching long enough to have those numbers doesnt mean he is not a good coach or better than others who have been coaching longer.
I think Gus is better than Paul Johnson but he doesn't have his acollades.

I would be embarrassed if my coach was whining about players being too fatigued by the HUNH offense and getting hurt. Just seems really pussy. And Arky fans are the only people that don't think the rebuilding project at Arky is a bigger than that at Auburn. Our coach has the type of players already on the roster, not the same for Arky.

LoL, some of you people. When you start using the bammer mantra you have lost any credibility you didn't have in the first place.

this all makes sense. No one but GM know for certain what he was thinking... it played out pretty well. Both programs got good coaches and hired good staffs... we'll see what happens down the road.

I've thought it all along. I think the man is very happy at Auburn.

I get Brets argument about hurry up offenses possibly causing injuries due to fatigue...but you still have three downs to stop a hurry up offense.
Any team can snap the ball as fast as they want but if they don't gain 10 yards, they punt.
Just stop the offense during the play and then you dont have to worry about the offense between plays.
Every week you prep for the offense you will face and every week is different. When teams prep for GT, they have to prepare for the triple option that week. When teams prep for UGA, they prep for down hill running and play action pass.
What is so difficult about prepping for a hurry up offense?

If they're that worried about player safety, they should champion for defensive lineman to not be allowed to blast the shite out of quarterbacks, especially from the blind side. Maybe stick a little pink flag on their waste that the lineman can pull.

I agree. I don't prefer it but I don't have a problem with it...not as a fan. Nolan Richardson's "40 minutes of hell" was a somewhat similar philosophy with basketball.

I think Brets argument for rules change is a slippery slope hamstringing offenses. You have 40 seconds to snap the ball. Does he want the ball snapped between the 15 and 40 second mark? It makes no sense.

Does anyone have any actual stats of injuries caused by the HUNH offense?
Seems like the ones crying like a little count would have some real numbers to back up their made up BS.

I'm not sure what kind of change he's advocating...not specifically.

really odd how Auburn fans keep trying to say Malzahn has proven to be a better coach than Bielema.
Malzahn has one season as a HC, going 9-3 in the Sun Belt with a team that won the conference the year before. It's fine to be optimistic, but he's an unknown at this point, and saying he's already proven to be better than Bielema is just ridiculous. Chizik and Ellis Johnson had some good years in the SEC as coordinators, too.

He would probably get less grief if he would offer up a plan or alternative.
