I love his "process" and have a hard time faulting much of his system for putting a winning product on the field.
It works and he is very successful. I think that success breeds an ego...it would for me. His ego should say, " I can beat anyone." He doesnt need a rule change unless he thinks it can creat an advatage for him like say...run out specific def players to counterbalance what the offense is doing play by play.

Even though he can sub when an offensive player is subbed?
Do you think he will site safety?
I don't know what he will do.
He doesn't like the fact that a HUNH offense rushes up the LOS, sets itself like they are about to snap the ball, pops up and looks to the sideline for the call, goes back down to set itself, and then snaps the ball. During the amount of time those actions took place, he could have subbed a defender. Some HUNH offenses look really quick getting to the LOS - but once they are there, they take all the time in the world they need to snap the ball.
You saw it in Gus' '11 offense. The problem is Chizik got sick and tired to running a fast paced O only to get the freakin line, snap the ball and get an offsides penalty, illegal shift, a busted play, or a QB that looked clueless and couldn't execute the play which resulted in his defense trotting back out on the field in a few short minutes.
Chizik didn't like all that movement behind the line to try to distract and confuse the defense that resulted in his QB getting his face planted into the turf. Chizik didn't like all the jet sweeps, end arounds, triple reverse shite the amounted to zero yrds gained. So Chiz tried a change (which his fanbase was ALL IN for at the time) - the change bit him in the arse and now y'all are back to the Gus Bus.

But that is not a product of a HUNH offense. He cannot sub a defender if no offensive play is subbed regardless of the style of offense being run.
Mich St is a very tradional offense. They can take all 40 seconds to snap the ball and Nick still will not be able to sub. He can do alot in that time but not sub.
I think the rule is very fair. If the offense subs, the defense can sub. If they dont, the D doesnt. Yes the same 11 def players may be on the field for multiple plays, but the same off players will as well.

The change in philosophy was only one reason on the list of reasons that offense sucked complete arse.

quote:I agree - Chizik "should" have done a lot of things differently. But at the end of the day a head coach is responsible for the entire team, both offense and defense. And if he see's that one unit is a detriment to the production of another unit, it's his job to do whatever "he" feels necessary to get his entire team to compete.
Chizik should have concerned himself with the defense getting gashed every fricking year he was the head coach.
Sorry if I don't feel like Gene Chizik was 100% to blame for the mess that we saw on the field in '11 & '12. Folks say he meddled to much and stunted Gus' innovative offensive plans.
IMO, that '11 offense wouldn't have been much more productive if it was executed at lighenting speed or at normal speed. Some of the plays and the damn carousel QB rotation (Gus rarely allowed one single QB to complete an offensive series) had an awful lot to do with the results, and that lays on GM.

That lays on the HC. That offense was humming against Ut St, MSU, and the first half of Clemson...then it all changed. Against UVA...it returned when GM was allowed to go back to work.
Like you said,..."necessary to compete". That offense at the beginning of 2011 was competing.

The whole program was in a complete tail-spin and it went back as far as the '11 season as well. The whole thing went down the drain completly when those 4-5* players laid down and gave up on the coaching staff.
It's a New Day according to CGM and I'll be happy to see AU football get back to competition level once again, back to full strength.

Remember when Aubie's were all excited Gus was gone and they were going back to smash-mouth? Loeffler was going to work magic with their QB's.

Gus' name isn't on that page one time. It's all about Loefler.
