I agree with this UGA fan.
I mean PJs offense has given the SEC fits even Clemson and FSU. GT is 3-2 vs. FSU and 5-5 against Clemson under PJ.
GT has beaten:
1. MSU with Dak in a huge bowl and they had a month to prepare
2. UGA 3 times (not where Id like it our contests have been very close save for 2011)
3. Vandy blew them out (tougher than it sounds to UT fans)
4. UK in one of their better years blew them out when they had a month to prepare
When you look at common opponents last year VT is a wash, UGA is a wash, UK is a wash and Vandy GT handled like they were an FCS team while UT and UGA lost to them.
GT returns 16 players this year and had one of the most experienced secondary and Dline we have had since 2009. Not to mention ACC offensive rookie of the year in Dedrick Mills at Bback and a bevy of returners at Aback GT's prospects are looking great. Plus our new QB is a RS-Junior and beat VT handily in their house last year. He is not exactly new. He has been doing this for a while. At 6'2" and 215 pounds he runs the option really well between the tackles.
Losing to GT should be no shame to UT. UT lost a lot on offense at key positions and some good guys on D.

If he loses to G-Tech he will already be gone in a lot of fans minds.
Yup. And a gtech loss will negatively engulf the season. Especially since "Gruden wants to coach again, and his son goes to UT". Jones needs to be nearly perfect thru the end of oct with only a well fought loss against bama being acceptable.
If he loses to vandy/ky at the end of the year he may not get fired as the buy out is big, but he will enter '18 on the "10 win season or bust" hot seat.
Jones has been given plenty time, and gets paid way to much to not have UT sitting in the 10 win season range. Major coaching changes at all of our division foes. bama should be the only hurdle, and we should be seeing games getting more and more competitive. No reason UT/bama game shouldnt be more like the '09 game.

Everyone knew Miles was done after Wisconsin debacle. I could see the same happening

It's not a matter of shame as much as a disappointment to start the season. It will bring the worse out of one of the most miserable fanbases, when things are bad. Ie "The Legion of the Miserable" will be out in force.

They only strong ACC team they beat was VT.Miami,
UNC and Clemson beat em by a minimum of 2 TD's.
They were also 3-0 in the SEC.

How do Tennessee fans feel if he goes 7-5 but one of the seven is a hard fought win over Bama?
Not good enough at all. He needs to win over Tennessee fans at this point, not hold us off the edge of terrible. He hasn't done anything in his career to show that he is a championship caliber coach. However, I don't think he is near as bad overall as most like to believe.

The response was to the comment regarding being 9-4
competing in a "strong ACC" and you didn't compete at all in your division/conference. You were 1-3 vs quality ACC opponents.

I agree with all, but I'm left wondering on what I bolded. Sell me here on what you are seeing I am not. And please not on his recruiting, but actual game day scheme, decisions, player development, etc.
I felt this way about Dooley, and got (and continue to) get hammered.

I'm not saying he is great, but I think 7-9 wins would be consistent with him. The way people talk they have him on a Dooley level.
Well, recruiting is the most important aspect of college football. His offense did set records last year. I don't think the scheme itself is bad, but most UT fans seem to love the old school pro-sets. I think Qb will be set while he is here. He runs a RB friendly offense.
Player development is largely on the assistant coaches and he obviously redid the staff. Bob Shoop, Hoke, Warren, Rock etc, he is trying to bring in better coaches. The S&C looked like it was a huge failure last season, but it is rumored Hart wouldn't let him hire another until the old one's buyout was gone. IDK if that is true. Few care but he will do his best to run a clean program and the VOLS set new classroom highs every year under him.
So not what we want or will be happy with, but I don't believe he is bottom tier in a shitty SEC coaching pool. This season will be the best indicator to date with us losing all the offensive production and great players on D. I have us at 7 to 8 wins depending on a few question marks.

And 3-0 against your division. Including your team.

Would LSU have fired Miles if he had used a university phone to arrange for hookers for himself?
Posted on 7/30/17 at 11:09 am to GermantownTiger
Looking at his record at Tenn. 51-30 with three bowl wins who else could they get to do any better?

Is that the best you got??
Wow,so victories vs SECE teams count towards your division record????
Who knew?
Not gonna argue that the SEC was a superior conference last year because it wasn't but the better the ACC gets the worse it's gonna get for GT.
Oh and I'm sure CMR is shaking in his boots about having to face CPJ every year.

I hate having to defend Tech, but they would have been a middle of the road SEC team last year.
Would not be surprised to see them step up and beat Tennessee

I don't know about his buyout but at 8 wins I feel like he could get the axe.
Only way he gets fired at 8-4 is with 2 losses to Vandy, Kentucky, and Missouri.
I think he beats UGA and the bums of the East, loses to UF, Bama, LSU, USC, and GaTech to finish 7-5 and a scorching seat headed into 2018, would have to win the East or get 10 wins before the bowl.

That's not that big a deal....Freeze beat Bama twice in a row, and look where that got him....
