I recognize that Florida State and Miami didn't play in leagues as strong as today's SEC, but nobody should drool over Alabama's recent success when others have come close to achieving the same feats a little over a decade ago.
The difference is Alabama managed to achieve the feat. Many teams since the poll era began in '36 have come close to winning back-to-back unanimous championships but the feat has only been accomplished three times: Notre Dame (1946 & '47), Nebraska (1994 & '95), and Alabama (2011 & '12).

I think the winner from the SEC should play in the MNC even if they lose a game. I would vote them in with even 2 or 3 losses. The Big 10 is a joke. ACC is slightly better and the Pac 12 and Big 12 are about even in my eyes.
We argue about schedules a lot, but their schedules are worse. Notre Dame got a lot of recognition last year for playing overrated teams. They would have easily lost 3-4 games in the SEC. Ohio St wouldn't get close to being undefeated. Though I think Louisville could compete, probably not win, but do well.

This is really a stupid thread because of all the possible scenarios out there at season's end that the OP doesn't even address. The only thing more stupid are the butthurt responses that the same old LSU idiots continue to heap upon this board. You clowns have managed to set the stereotype for all LSU fans as whining, crybabies who are so mistreated, disrespected and put upon by the world. If I was a regular LSU fan, I'd tell y'all to STFU!!

It depends on alot of things that you can't tell right now. Like who they lost to, where both are ranked, who else is undefeated or one lose, etc. They won't be left out because voters are tired of them. They would probably get the tie breaker just because of the chance at a 3-peat.
When the playoff starts there will be alot of teams in the Championship game and NC winners with one loss.

And Notre Dame refused to play in bowl games back then.

Depends on what the rest of the country does, obviously.
n 2011, a one-loss Alabama team got into the title game against a team they lost to, at home, without even winning the SEC. There was nothing special about that schedule either.
A one-loss SEC team will get in if there aren't 2+ undefeateds, or one of those undefeateds is Ohio State. Alabama has the Saban factor, everyone one else has the schedule to jump up to the top two.

Does a one loss Bama team deserve a title shot?
Depends on who Alabama loses to and what other teams do. Say Ohio State is the only undefeated and Alabama is one of many 1-loss teams, their one loss being to LSU, then they probably get in. They would have crush everyone in all of their wins and win the SEC title of course. Florida State got in the BCS title twice in the late 90s with one loss, playing terrible schedules year in and year out.
