Easier to maintain a level of success in basketball, but also harder to win the title in basketball

I don't think that's really a counter so much as furthering my post unless I'm misinterpreting you.

I might not have been clear. YOu said football is easier because you don't have to win so many posteason games, I said bball is easier.

My point is that the margin for error in football is razor thin, whereas in basketball it's gargantuan. To make "the playoffs", which for this exercise I'll say is the entity in which you have a chance to win the title [CFB Playoff for cfb, NCAATourney for cbb], is much easier in basketball.

In football you can only lose 0 or 1 games during the season to make the playoffs. Also far more often than not you must win your conference. Also due to a general lack of parity there are typically only about 10-15 teams to start a season that have a chance to make the playoffs.

In basketball you can lose double digit games and still make the playoffs. You could have an above average season, but go far in your conference tourney and make the playoffs. You could go absolutely winless at 0-20something, win a 4 game conference tourney and make the playoffs. You don't need to be a conference champ to make the playoffs.

Obviously the flip side here is in football you have to win 2 games after makign teh playoffs whereas in basketball it's 6, but you have an exponentially easier time in basketball even making the playoffs in the first place.

I'd say football.

reason is that one and done just about makes it impossible. You have a great player and he's gone after one year. Plus, one player on a basketball team means so much more than one player on a football team. One player can pretty much get a team deep into a tournament. Not as much with one in football.

It is much more difficult to have an upset in football though

For Christ sake the NBA plays a 7 games series because of how easy an individual game upset is in basketball.

All of this is true but the talent pool is significantly more spread out in basketball considering any program can only have thirteen scholarship athletes at a time. Plus basketball is a bit more "finesse" based than football where a team with inferior talent and athleticism can upset a more talented team with a hot shooting night whereas Alabama wouldn't ever lose to Fresno State even if they played 100 times.

making the NCAAT in basketball is not dominating the sport. It's basically like making a decent bowl game. You can't compare making the NCAAT to making the CFP. In football, you dominate the regular season, you make the playoffs. In basketball, you dominate the regular season, you still have to win 4 straight games against good teams to make the final four. Since 2010, only 9 1 seeds have made the final four out of 32 total final four teams. That is just a hair over 25%. In college football, every 1 seed makes the final four. So basically, in football if you are dominant, you are rewarded by being placed in the final four. In basketball if you are dominant, you still have to play your way into the final four.

Additionally, as others have stated, upsets happen much more frequently in basketball due to the inherent nature of the sport. That, in and of itself, makes it more difficult to have a dynasty.
