Maybe you should review the new NCAA policies on noisemakers before you try to put me down on knowledge.

Well....per MSU's media guide, tickets, etc. The SEC prohibits artificial noisemakers. sooooooo....I fail to see your argument.

And fwiw, that big quote came from an MSU website from 2007. So for at least one season, they could have been penalized multiple times.

This being said, I agree with you Pank. It actually would have been a good game. OSU just wasn't that good.
Ole Miss defense played better in the bowl game.

It would have definitely made for some good old fashioned smash mouth football when PSU's offense and our defense were on the field.

But our offense would have likely been terrible on that field.

They were penalized that season but have failed to be penalized since the NCAA rule change.

So, if you could do me the slightest favor......link me to where it says that the NCAA rule cancels out the SEC's rule on artificial noisemakers at conference games.

ETA: and no they weren't penalized. Because MSU continued to use their cowbells for the entire season. Seriously, how can you say that they were penalized when they weren't at all.

Here's the SEC Sports article dated 2006 saying the NCAA allows the SEC to regulate their policy.

LINK

now where is a more recent article that shows the NCAA stripping the SEC of regulating this policy?

I just googled NCAA rules on noisemakers I would link it but I'm on my iPhone and can't figure it out because of the few beers I've consumed this evening. So please excuse me not being able to link maybe tomorrow ha.

i just did as well. The only thing relevant that I found was on the second page from Bama's site Regarding their baseball stadium.

quote:

Noisemakers: Southeastern Conference and NCAA rules prohibit artificial noisemakers from being brought inside Sewell-Thomas Stadium. This includes, but is not limited to, all horns (including air horns), thunder sticks, cow bells and whistles. Prohibited items will be confiscated.

So where exactly is the exception written that gives MSU the OK for allowing cowbells?

ETA: From Texass's fan guide site.

quote:

Big 12 Conference and NCAA rules prohibit artificial noisemakers from being brought inside the facility. This includes, but is not limited to, all horns (including air horns), cow bells and whistles. Prohibited items will be confiscated.

and seriously.....from your own schools website.

quote:

Artificial Noisemakers/Crowd Noise Excessive and uncontrolled noise can result in penalties against the home team. Southeastern Conference regulations prohibit the use of artificial noisemakers at all league games.

Inelishaitrust and pankReb are fricking tools.

The smallest college town in the SEC is not the best town in the world according to most Ole Miss fans.

I'm trying to decide if OM fans spend more time cheering for their team or hating on us. Strange?

Long live cowbells.

That is all.

I haven't read this whole thread, but would like the opportunity to voice my opinion on the matter.

I actually like and respect MS State's tradition of the cowbell. It doesn't bother me if they ring it. It's just what they do.

In fact, I'm getting me a cowbell, and paintin one side purple and the other gold.

I'm bringing it to the next LSU/MSU game, and gonna ring the hell out of the fricker.

If you can't beat em...

shite. Might as well stick with my hatred of OM here and chime in....

Hell, I take more offense to the name "Ole Miss" than I do from cowbells. It's what slaves used to call the wife of a plantation owner. Yet, they're still allowed to use that as a nickname? bullshite.

I like cowbells. They ring up one of my favorite dishes: steak. We'd have a pretty shitty life without agriculture and those who study it in a scientific setting. The OM guys need to go worry about important issues like ironing their pink pants.

It's the off-season and we have nothing better to do. FWIW the Ole Miss fans on here could be better served to stand down a little here.

yeah that's the other thing about them that shows how retarded they are. they changed nicknames in the '60s and picked one already in use in the conference.

Mississippi State was associated with "Bulldogs" long before Georgia was.

From the official MSU website:

"Bulldogs became the official title for State teams in 1961, not long after State College was granted university status. Yet references to school teams and athletes as Bulldogs actually go back to early in the century, and this nickname was used almost interchangably with both Aggies and Maroons, since at least 1905.

On November 30 of that year the A&M football team shut out their arch-rivals from the University of Mississippi 11-0 in Jackson, Miss. The campus newspaper, The Reflector, reported: "After the game, filled with that emotion that accompanies every great victory, there was nothing left for the cadets to do but to complete the great victory by showing sympathy for the dead athletic spirit of the University, by having a military funeral parade.

"A coffin was secured, decorated with University colors and a bulldog pup placed on top. It was then placed on the shoulders of a dozen cadets, and the procession started down Capitol Street, preceded by the brass band playing a very pathetic funeral march."

Other newspaper reports of the victory commented on the 'bulldog' style of play by the A&M eleven, and the Bulldog was soon publicly accepted as a school athletic symbol. Accounts of a 1926 pep rally in Meridian, Miss., had another bulldog parading with students.

Use as an official game mascot began in 1935 when coach Major Ralph Sasse, on 'orders' from his team, went to Memphis, Tenn., to select a bulldog. Ptolemy, a gift of the Edgar Webster family, was chosen and the Bulldogs promptly defeated Alabama 20-7.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it Dixon and Relf that ran all other Ole Miss or was it the cowbells? Was it the defense stopping Ole Miss or was it the cowbells? IMO the cowbells cant run, pass, catch or tackle.

Ole Miss fans need to stop crying about this. Very unbecoming for a former preseason #4 team.
