how is college baseball a number 2 sport here? just so you know, noone else in the country gives a shite.
Just because they suck. A la Tennessee baseball.

until I realize we will still suck and I'll stop going to the games
I figure if we're going to invest in it, we probably need to support the cause
.. This might be what Lebo needs to get this ship turned around..

There are more things around campus that the money could have been used on. Including a new coach

Are you talking about LSU or the SEC? Because baseball is very popular in the SEC...especially at LSU, Arkansas, and Mississippi State.
College sports in general are very popular in the SEC. During the 2008-09 school year, the SEC was #2 among college conferences in basketball attendance (either total, or by game), and #1 in baseball attendance.
The fact that the entire nation treats the opening rounds of the NCAA Tourney like a national holiday does not make them true fans. It just means that they like filling out pools and pulling for underdog teams they've never seen before.
Fan support for baseball in the SEC is roughly on par with fan support for basketball.
Basketball Attendance, 2008-09
#1. Kentucky 422,547 22,239 (19)
#4. Tennessee 307,239 20,483 (15)
#11. Arkansas 288,781 16,043 (18)
#25. Vandy 225,686 13,276 (17)
#31. SCAR 223,750 11,776 (19)
#37. LSU 217,834 10,373 (21)
#38. Florida 206,547 10,327 (20)
#44. Alabama 179,275 9,960 (18)
#60. Miss. St. 157,111 8,728 (18)
#81. Georgia 120,602 6,700 (18)
#82. Ole Miss 105,969 6,623 (16)
N/A. Auburn -- DID NOT MAKE TOP 100
Baseball Attendance, 2009

Not Trying to flame, but when was the last time Bama went to the College World Series?
Posted on 1/9/10 at 9:25 pm to Bryant91092
I've had season tickets for 20 years in the same seats and Gottfried almost made me give them up. Grant is the real deal but he needs more talent which I believe he can get.

I think 97? Wells was kind of like Gottfried. Had good runs with great talent. They never reached their full potential.

The tournament's setup also doesn't promote regular season basketball discussion, since the regular season doesn't matter that much.

Baseball is growing every year in popularity in the SEC. I'd rather go to baseball games than basketball games now, and thats kind of sad.
You can't beat a sunny afternoon at Baum.

Why is that sad?
The way I see it, here is how the various SEC schools fall in terms of baseball vs. basketball...
Solidly Baseball First:
LSU; Ole Miss; Miss. State
Baseball by a Nose:
Arkansas; South Carolina
Still Prefer Basketball over Baseball, but "in play" for a Switch in the Near Future:
Alabama; Georgia; Auburn; Florida
Will Always Be Basketball First Schools (i.e., Northerners):
Kentucky; Vanderbilt; Tennessee

I'd feel the same way if I was an Arkansas fan. Thankfully, I'm not.

Because people in Mississippi and Louisiana dont have a pro baseball team or a minor league team they really care much for, and they love their college baseball at LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
I'm one of the few State fans that remember baseball being all we had back in the mid to late 80's. Football and basketball were in bad shape in the mid to late 80's at State. We were the first profitable (self-sufficient) school in baseball for the SEC.
