It never ceases to amaze me (1) how much people get worked up over this and (2) how quick they are to rationalize/undermine someone else's decision, a person they know absolutely nothing about except what they read on premium sites.

Well, this is a message board and lot of discussion on message boards is speculation. And it is not unreasonable to speculate his decision might be different if his GF was not going to bama on a scholly.

I'm just surprised you're not criticizing him for letting a girl lead him around. He's the man, and he should be dictating where he goes, not her.

Dunno. No idea of the dynamics of those two people that I know nothing about. I am however saying it is not unreasonable to speculate she has substantial influence and also the fact she is dating a high profile recruit bama wanted led to "special" consideration by bama in regards to he scholly and rumored job offer. I got led around by the balls when I was 19 and 20 by a very hot little piece of arse in Pensacola I met at the beach one weekend. It happens.

I'm not that big of an arse (or stupid, though feel free to disagree). I do know letting a girl lead you around is asking to get stepped on or cheated on. All us guys learn that the hard way sooner or later. And hell, that may not be the case at all here. He gets to college and becomes a good player, he will probably have options for upgrades if he wants.
