9-3 at worst? You play Florida, Georgia, Alabama, A&M, and Ole Miss. There's 5 losses right there, not that I think LSU will lose every one, but it could happen. It could get a hell of a lot worse if than 9-3 if the defense takes a step back.
That D line is what kept Johnny from being his usual run-all-over-the-got-damn-field self. The question for 2013 is whether the backups can shut down offenses like the 2012 version did.

LSU switched to a 3-4 and put athletic freshmen at OLB. They'll probably do the same in 2013 and win again.

It'll be about the same in 2013. That 3-4 gave Manziel fits. The young LBs played very well when asked to do so in that game. I don't think defense will be a liability for LSU in 2013. The team goes as the offense goes.

That was the problem most fans had with KK's play-calling. 3 down linemen is a run play all day long. I don't think that is a good strategy a second time around. But, by all means, please try that again. I won't complain.

Do I have to pull every single thread talking about how losing Michael Dyer was no big deal and that Tre Mason is a Thurmon Thomas/Barry Sanders/Walter Payton/Jerome Bettis super hybrid, except better?
My Auburn friends wrote the book on spinning a departure as a good thing

having Eugene the RSFR nickelback playing in the box helped along with Sam and KeKe's speed. That's what kept Manzeil at bay. The speed of KeKe and Sam will not be there next year. Rasco is solid and Hunter may be, but I dont know if that athleticism and speed will be enough to contain Johnny next year.

Why not? LSU has an army of undersized, but athletic linebackers who have proven they can keep Manziel from running around the backfield for 10 seconds before lobbing a pass to an open receiver.

I think he's talking about AU's record over that time period.

Not saying LSU will experience anything close to what happened to AU, because there were so many other factors that played into that AU debacle we just witnessed. But a team that's losing the numbers LSU is about to lose may have an impact on the production for '13. I'm sure Les has a plan though.

And they may be fast enough, but LSU will need to stay in man coverage with 4 DLs and a controlled pass rush. I think LSU has (or had) the best personnel of any team to do it and enough depth to stay fresh, but I don't think 3-4 or a dime package works again.

Actually, as one of the ringleaders of the "Dyer doesn't matter" brigade, I found it humorous that you are now lecturing people on how defections can hurt a program.
I, on the other hand, have a sterling reputation of pointing out how departures hurt. Check my posts on Tyrann Mathieu should you have any further inquiries.

You forgot Auburn

It is good that LSU is putting that many players in the NFL and I'm sure they will take advantage of this as a recruiting tool. But also losing large quantities of players in one year can hurt production the following season. I dont think LSU will have a bad season just not as good as the previous two IMO.

Nobody is saying that at all. This is the first time you've seen LSU fans saying 9-3 is a real possibility going in in quite some time.
It is definitely a sign of a healthy program though.
