Agree 100%. If there's no penalty for losing then what's the point of all this?
Their job is to pick the four best teams during the season for the playoffs.
There will always be a lot of butt hurt.

quote:Let's assume OSU beats Michigan and Wisconsin beats Penn State in B1G CG. Ohio State will have 1-loss and wins over Mich (who beat Penn St bigly) and Wisc. Wisc will have 2 losses to Mich and Ohio St and 1 win over Penn St. Ohio St will also have a win over Oklahoma and Wisc will have a win over LSU.
I want to see how the committee will explain having Ohio State in the playoffs, but the Big 10 champion (either Wisconsin or Penn State) not in the playoffs.
If the above occurs, does a deliver the message that conferences are no longer needed and CFP should be from a group of about 40-45 teams?
In that scenario, the commitee may feel like Ohio St has a little bit better resume than Wisc along with a head-to-head win over Wisc. In that scenario, the committe may decide that OSU should be ranked in front of Wisc. If the commitee does that, then they have to decide whether or not Wisc should also get in to the top four. That decision should depend on how the resumes of other contenders (Louisville, Washington, etc.) compare to Wisc's resume.
It seems like a lot of people believe that winning a conference championship is a huge criteria to get in, but it's not. It's one of the tie-breakers used by the committee if two teams' resumes are pretty equal. It's quite possible you could have a future situation where two teams in the same conference division have the two best resumes after the CG games are played. Should one of them get left out just because they didn't win a division or conference championship?

This scenario hasn't happened before so no data point to measure it against. If things play out as they may, you will have 2 2 loss conference champs (OU and whoever wins the B1G game). Therefore, you either have to put in a 1 loss non champ or a 2 loss champ.
I will say for example Iowa stayed above a 2 loss conference champ last year in Stanford, but OSU fell below a 2 loss conference champ. So either could happen

Penn State has an easy path to the B1G CG. So OSU likely will have to make it as a 1-loss, non-division winner.
People forget, this whole CFP committee system was created to keep the B1G relevant (remember what the B1G's status was at the time of inception). If you don't think Barry Alvarez isn't going to take this opportunity to show horn in 2 teams from his conference, I don't know what to tell you.

I mean as a bama fan this is great. With Saban we pretty much should always be in the playoff. We will always have the most talented team. according to how the committee just voted we are in the playoff no mater what we do against auburn

The cfp was not created to make the big ten relevant. Haha

Umm yeah. That has pretty much been decided. And nobody in America thinks Bama will trip on their own dicks in the final three games. That in itself would be the biggest shock in the last ten or 15 years. There has been some talk about the Tide resting their starters for the Iron Bowl. Think about that for a minute. That is almost blasphemous but that is the situation you are in now. The drama, suspense and intrigue has almost been sucked out of the college football season for some people and it's only the middle of November. I'll still watch because I love college football. But the fact that media and sports shows even are considering Bama being bad for the competitive nature of the SEC is truly headscratching. It's weird that's all.

The reason why it is the easiest "sport" to bet on. Other than NASCAR. People need to realize that this division of college football is for entertainment purposes (profit) and has no merit value at all.
