quote:Nope. CBS gets the first pick every week (unless you are talking about the first two weeks in September, which was not included in the CBS contract because they had US Open tennis at the time it was negotiated).
The most likely explanation is that espn got first pick this weekend due to it being in their contract.
CBS loves Bama and wanted to make sure they got their quota of 5 Bama games. Unlikely that there is anything more to it than that.

No CBS gambled that Auburn was going to win last week at Florida. Last week is when they should have taken the 6-day option. If they would have taken the 6-day option UF-LSU would be the 3:30 game, not Bama-AM.
There are a few static slots that do not change. One being UF/UGA it is preseason set for 3:30. Bama/Tenn use to be but think that fell off with Tennessee wheels.
Them taking the 6-day option for next week is a little baffling.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just blindly take bama vs atm over UF/LSU unless there was another motive.

I believe CBS aired a doubleheader in 2011. CBS didn’t simply swap the afternoon game for a prime time kickoff. They had to cash in a lot of chips to keep the afternoon game, AND add a prime time game.
They gave ESPN the rights to UGA/USCe in 2012.

I thought they wanted Bama being number 1 with their ratings along with the Houston market and the state of Texas for Texas am.

Every year it seems like cbs makes an odd choice like this that makes no sense, and espn having a first pick is the only reasonable explanation for it. “Liking bama” doesn’t do that. Top 10 LSU & Florida is too good of a matchup.

Honestly though, not everyone is fed up with noon games.
Here's the thing...I get where you're coming from. Athens is a much better place for a day game. I've been there and it's beautiful. Probably several other venues are great for day games.
Tiger Stadium goes from being a place you cannot wait to get into (nighttime) to a place you will leave as soon as the game is not in question (daytime). It's too friggin hot. Alabama and a few others probably feel the same way.
SEC should ask the heads of school who wants to host these things and keep the noon / 11am slot for those hosts.

Personally, I hate noon games when I go to the games and when I don’t go to games.

CBS giving up a top 7 match up this weekend is bizarre. Either it's happening or CBS is getting played. I lean toward the former.
No I really think is goes down to CBS Program Director of CFB. This person is in NYC, probably doesn't know much about CFB. All he/she/they knows is what the ratings tell you and the #1 team in the country gets eyeballs on the TV, so put them on as much as you can. My understanding is that CBS can put a team on 5 times. Bama has been on vs SCAR, Ole Miss and now Texas A&M. Before that Texas A&M decision was made, the Bama gams were the Aggies, TENN, Arkansas, LSU, MSU and Auburn. So if CBS wanted Bama on 5 times (My theory is that they do), the A&M game was the logical choice, TSIO, no go, Arkansas, No go, the LSU game, yes, when Bama plays State, that is the week of the UGA-Auburn game (CBS game is my prediction) and then the Iron Bowl, which will be the 5th CBS game for Bama.
