Davonte Parker and Gesiki also had two of the worst yards of separation when targeted. Less than 2 yards... that’s terrible. Miami got rid of the OC, and will likely draft Sewell. They also have 2 second round picks and could trade up to grab a receiver in the first to give them 3 first round picks. Will be an entirely new offense for Miami next season. The good news for Tua is that the HC seems to like him.

Yeah, I’m not worried about Tua at all. NFLheads overreact and write off young QBs all the time. I pay them no mind on that front. Tua has easily one of the worst receiver corps in the NFL. His WR1, Parker, get less separation on average than AJ Green who is basically not trying anymore. By the end of the season, Tua’s WR2 and WR3 were two guys who were playing QB in college last year. His tight end is alright but not an elite target...definitely can’t get big separation, would be fine if he could work underneath better WRs clearing out space for him. The OL has a bunch of rookies and the tackles are no good. I think some of the tailbacks they were using were waiver pick up trash from other teams. They got Bowden in a trade because the Raiders immediately soured on the guy after drafting him in the 3rd round. Miami’s offense is basically the island of misfit toys.

If Tua was playing on the Chargers, he would’ve won RotY too. Much better offense w/ 2 quality NFL starters (and a former Pro Bowler) at WR and a good TE.

I have to disagree, while I think he has more individual success there. Tua problem arises when the play breaks down or his 2nd read is not open it's clear as day.

Tua needs to get through his progression quicker.

He does, but generally speaking by the time he could even get to his 3rd read the pass protection has already broken down. Miami's OL is really, really bad. Fitz comes in and is able to produce, but he gets lit up and takes a lot of chances in the process, and taking all those chances is what got him benched in the first place. They just have a long way to go on offense and need more than one or two pieces to get there. Tua hasn't been great by any stretch of the imagination, but he's hardly the problem.

Fitz is a super aggressive thrower, that is is identity throughout his career, but he’s gonna throw 2.5 INTs per start. Admittedly, he’s a journeyman playing on teams roughly always with ‘20 Phins type talent.

Why do the vast majority of the great QBs on great rosters in college throw like less than an INT per game? Their receivers don’t frick up all the time. Great receivers protect their QB’s stats by not running sloppy routes and getting separation.

Smitty is everything you want in a college player. Leads by example, humble, hardworking and seems to be an overall good person.

and in two less games

Josh Reed held the single season yards record until last year in twelve total games. Had his bowl stats counted back then (Reed went for 230 in the Sugar Bowl), Smith would need like 350 yards to break it.

Still kind of upset Chase beat his record last year fwiw. Felt like a small part of my teenage years were erased a little bit.

Smith played a full 12 game all against P5 teams.

Reed had multiple cupcake games (MTSU, Tulane, Utah State)

Josh Reed was a stud. Still have nightmares about that guy.

Smith is the definition of a stud. He's my favorite non-LSU player to watch... ever. They obviously play/played different sides of the ball but he reminds me of Mathieu in the sense that he can single handedly change a game. I really hope he wins the heisman tonight (it's tonight right?). He more than deserves it.

So I knew eventually you were coming back to this. To be fair I didn't mention Chase nor I am putting him down or comparing the two in my OP. Simply highlighting that Smitty has done it against all P5s.

Absolutely. I wouldn’t have said anything if other people hadn’t started talking about the draft comparisons. Like vice, no intention to derail the thread

Great player and great season

He actually had similar but slightly better numbers against the SEC. Totally different era, but then again, that 2001 team with Rohan Davey resembled this era at times.

His effort against you guys in Tuscaloosa was the single greatest game by a player I have ever witnessed in person. To think it took 19 years and a 2020 defense to break that record is wild. Boutte's game against ole miss was great, but it doesn't compare to Reeds game against Bama.

His and Juedy's ability to get separation was the best I have seen at any level.
