That still means absolutely nothing in this argument...

Someone said they did not see a fair catch called. I said I saw his arm waving.

There is just no way to defend the hit, regardless if he called for a fair catch or not.

As I have already mentioned in this thread, I agree.

I have to agree. Fairly took some cheap shots, but nothing in the same ballpark as Wade. Ejection isn't enough. He'd never play another down for my team. Props to the Vandy players for not curb stomping that thug.

Still doesn't look a lot like a fair catch wave w/ his left hand. It was an illegal hit b/c he hit him before he had a chance to catch it, but the gunners don't know where the ball is, they make hits based on whether they see a FC signal and if the PR is preparing to catch the punt. If a guy is about to catch a punt and it isn't clear whether he made a FC signal then he is free game. I didn't see how he acted after the punt, but if he acted like an idiot, I'm not defending that. All I'm saying is that it's not as blatant as is portrayed on here.

I agree with both of you. If interested, watch this video. It discusses injuries resulting from tackling with your head down. A scenario like the one that just happened is discussed around the 4 min mark.

So you're saying its legal to hit him before the ball gets there?
Posted on 10/29/11 at 2:26 pm to JonTheTigerFan
no.
Its just hard for those guys to know where the ball is when they are running full speed at a PR, and if it looks like the guy is about to catch the ball and hasn't waved for a FC, then it comes down to timing. The arky player didn't time it right. It was an illegal hit for that fact.

WTF?
No, he is not "free game." That's why everyone else stops running and stands around the PR until the ball arrives.

They're just going by what the commentators said.

But even that aside, he led with his helmet on a PR who OBVIOUSLY did not have the ball. That's pretty damn blatant.
Or are you arguing that Wade thought he had the ball and that it was ok to lead with his helmet?

well i know he is not free game before the ball arrives, but you see a lot of guys try and time it where they hit the PR who hasn't called a FC. the vandy player looked like he was making an attempt at a catch and the arky player hit him.
