The culture of the south has certain parallels with the civil war including human migration and settlement after the war.

For example, I was doing some genealogy research last month and found where both of my great, great grandfathers on my dad's side were confederate soldiers. One from Georgia, one from Alabama. Interestingly, they are both buried in LeFlore County, Oklahoma.

I mention this because this kind of migration after the war was quite common and distributed southern culture throughout Oklahoma as well as Texas.

My mom's family moved from Tennessee to Texas during the same timeframe. Late 1800's.

The opposite of the faggots in Austin and their CA culture. Oklahoma is actually a decent fit

100% agree. You never hear someone called a "Yankee" & it NOT an insult. Guess that also explains my dislike of NY.

Missouri is hard to figure out. KC is a midwestern city. St Louis is a Northeastern city. South of I-44 is very southern. You talk to people native to each of these areas and hear the differences in their accents, even.

Missouri truly is the confluence of the nation...

- St. Louis is the western most eastern city
- Kansas City is the eastern most western city
- The Ozarks (everything south of I-44) is southern in culture
- Much of what is north of I-44 shares the farm culture of Iowa

Overall the state is very conservative, underscored by the firing of everyone involved in the 2015 protests.
So while still sort of an SEC misfit the state itself shares southern values, even if the University might be more aligned with the Big Ten.

Now Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma have their own culture. Dead eyed, sort of inbred, soulless if you will.

Honestly might be my favorite quote I’ve ever seen about the SEC.

Much of what is on I44 east of Joplin and west of Rolla is the meth belt. If you must stop, do it at the candy factory.
