If we're talking about money, maybe endowments are close, but the student body at Ole Miss is so wealthy its gross. I know a bunch of people from both schools. Ole Miss kids have SMU kinda money. Range Rovers all over the parking lot and shite.
There's a difference between flaunted wealth and true wealth. That's largely a background difference between OM people and MSU people if we're being honest.
You won't catch very many of even the wealthiest MSU people spending in ridiculous excess on vehicles. Most of our big time guys wouldn't even stand out in a crowd in any way if you didn't know who they were...

Ole Miss has way more true and flaunted wealth than State does.

And our administration the last year or so has been getting those parents from Texas to donate more money. If we could get a competent Chancellor who was focussed on raising money instead of political correctness bullshite, we'd be rich as hell.
If you could get those people to buy in longterm, it would be great for your program for sure. Seems that has been one of your problems with all those OOS kids/families coming and having fun for 4 years, but never truly vesting back into OM.
State owns alot of land and is willed more every year. Those assets make up a significant portion of our total endowment... Even in tough years, this makes us almost totally recession proof. This is something our admin has done a great deal identifying and following through with over the past 20 or so years. As such, really since 9/11, land has been appreciating at a much higher rate in general than the hedge funds, etc that actual endowment capital is usually invested in -- and that defines a fairly large part of our growth over the same time period...

Maybe they're flaunting their true wealth?

Flaunted, yes. True, no.

MEH -- 90% of those kids are dr or lawyer kids. Rich, maybe, but not filthy rich.
A very large part of the culture at your university is putting on a face that in no way describes who you really are. It's more about the pageantry than the reality -- and always has been.

Now I know we all have our homer tendencies towards our respective schools and teams, but let's try to be objective here. I know OM finally won their super bowl against us in a game they needed for bowl eligibility and we were gator bowl bound win or lose. Motivation is a big thing.
But let's assess the facts:
Ok. Well Mullen is 3-1 against OM, this year's game was an anomaly, not the norm. We still finished with a better overall and SEC record, and went to a better bowl.
An MSU grad on average makes more than an OM grad. OM with their best basketball team in history couldn't beat State's worst team at the Hump. We have already beaten OM in baseball but the series is to be determined this weekend. We are ranked higher in baseball with a better record.
Of course they do, they work hard. Everything Mullen has said up to this point has validity.
I will admit this leans toward accepting mediocrity and that is embarrassing and unacceptable. We should strive to be better than more than just Ole Miss, Auburn, UK and Tennessee.
But let's assess the facts:
quote:
Mullen called MSU "premier" school in MS for academics, athletics:"It's not that we're cocky, we're just better than all the other schools."

Isn't this the kind of thing we hate ole miss for? I wish Dan would shut up and take his medicine sometimes. We are Mississippi state no reason to try to be anyone else.

Ask them if they got that money for the stadium expansion yet. Took us less than one year to secure all needed funds to go to IHL. Surely they have started breaking goround, right?
