I’m not convinced we are a top 5 team. Good bats but pitching overall statistically is toward bottom of the SEC and we haven’t beaten anyone good. A bunch of nobodies and lost to the two top 10 teams we played, though both games were great games and competitive.
We are better than we were under Lemonis the past 3 years no doubt. I think we are a top 25 and potential regional host team. But #2 in the country and a potential national seed? Ehh I haven’t seen that yet. Potential there? Yes. But I need to see the clutch factor in tight games against quality opponents. Thus far, we were in position to win both against UCLA and USM and choked away both rather than walk it off. Especially against UCLA tied bottom 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd no outs and couldn’t put a ball in play.
That clutch factor is what made the 2021 championship team. I haven’t seen that from this team yet and until I do I say we will be a top 25 team and 2 seed or regional host but unlikely to make Omaha. I hope I’m wrong and our team really gets to gelling in conference play and takes some big series. This weekend will tell us a lot
