Increases velocity but reduces break on breaking balls. About 20-25 more feet of carry they said, I think.
The homerun numbers across college baseball have gone way up since the switch.
ETA: Poster above is correct. They switched to the minor league baseball that has lower seams.

The seams were flattened, not raised. This does help the ball travel further.
