I got into this conversation yesterday with a friend and I am a big Dan Mullen fan. He told me Mullen has run his course in Starkville and we need new blood in Starkville. I told him we likely couldn't do better than Mullen and he argued with me.

What do you guys think? Can State do better than Mullen, and if so who could we hire?

Might want to rethink that thread title.

I think some posters overblow Hudspeth and think he is a lot more than what he is.

Im not saying hes not a good coach, just not sure if he is as well accomplished as Dan. Plus Im not sure how Hud could recruit at State.

Not too long ago the question was asked....

Could Mississippi State hire a better coach than Rick Stansbury?

Ms. State Said "Oh Hell Yes!"

Everyone else said "No."

Rick Ray said "Hello."

I think Hud would be a great hire.

Miss State can get a better coach, but they couldn't keep him. Mullen is right at that level where he does just well enough to where he won't get fired, but not well enough to where bigger programs throw money at him to make him their coach.

We did hire a better coach. Whether he can get the players he needs remains to be seen.

If someone uses you as a stepping stone, that means they did well.

If Mullen leaves/gets fired, I think the job is a lot more attractive of an opening than when he came in.

Depends on MSU's expectations.

I think MSU and their fans are simply content with beating the evil Ole Miss every once in a while.

I don't see big picture wants and desires, and don't know if the potential is there yet.

Don't be surprised to see State go 4-8 or 5-7 next season. After another bad one in 2014, State gives Bobby Petrino a chance to come back to the SEC.

I have already forgiven Petrino for his sins.

So do I. I hope State drags their feet too long and he takes a bigger job elsewhere.

You don't get fired at too many school's for 8 wins. Next year could be rough though.
