Could Miss. State have gone to the CWS with Cannizaro at the helm?

Serious question.

It seems that after the firing of Cannizaro that Miss. State had a lot of ups and downs this year, but ended the year trending up and is on a mission to end the year on an extremely high note (I won't anger the baseball gods at State by saying potentially where).

Had Cannizaro kept his hands out of the cookie jar, gotten his shite together, and coached this team, would he have gotten them to Omaha, or did the adversity of losing Cannizaro and battling back from that, and making Henderson, an old, steady hand, the head coach, set them on this year's path?

Why's it matter? I don't think State fans care and probably excited about what their team has done.

What ifs don't matter, it won't change anything and we will never know. This State team should be proud of their accomplishments without Cannizaro.

Because I'm asking.

You've never taken a turn down a fork in the road and wondered what was down the other way?

If Cann kept his dick in his pants and focused on baseball, absolutely. He was a better coach imo. But considering he let everything get in his way, no.

Yes. But only if Cann got away from LB and did his job. Imagine if Cann did his job the whole time and the sexting thing never existed.

Yeah, but after you make that decision there is no going back.

No hate brother, just don't think it's a important question. Not trying to flame.

It's impossible to say. Could they have had a better regular season? Sure. Had they had a different regular season, they may have been sent to a different regional and had a completely different road to the CWS. We saw 4 national seeds fail to make it out of the regionals. Two national seeds have to win today to advance. As of today, only 2 national seeds have advanced to Omaha. There's just way too much variance in baseball to say what would or wouldn't have happened if Canny was still the HC.

It's a lot of "luck of the draw"

State has now been to 3 straight Supers, and this was the worst of the 3 squads. Yet, this team is headed to Omaha. Last year MSU had to face an LSU team that they just didn't match up with.

Canni didn’t do anything wrong, IMO. Morally wrong yes but he just got shite on because he got caught.

I really don’t see how his sex life influences being a baseball coach but maybe that’s just me.

This. I know almost every SEC team has had at least one team that should have made Omaha on talent alone and didn't and have had a team make it Omaha that was far less likely to get there. We had great teams in 1984, 1989 and 2016 that were regional runners-up or just made the Supers that had, overall, a lot more talent that this team. They just rant into teams that got hot at the right time, like Arizona two years ago.

And because he blatantly lied to his boss about the situation and the use of his university phone. It wasn't his action per se, it was the liability that he was exposing the university to

Cann was wrong. He wasn't even running practice. He would be sitting to the side texting his side piece while the assistants ran practice. He wasn't doing his job. He was sexting during the middle of the USM series- during the games! He went out one time to change pitchers and brought one in who wasn't even warming up because his head was out of the game.

Dude was sexting in the dugout while we were getting skullfricked by USM. He tried to send a pitcher to the mound without warming him up in the pen first. He had also apparently been warned- rumor has it a manager was assigned by Cohen to make sure there was nothing going on in the dugout, so it was a known distraction that he still participated in, even after warnings.

You serious Clark? He didn't get fired for cheating. He got fired because he lied to Cohen's face after being confronted about it. Then instead of doing his job he spent an entire 3 game series texting in the dugout while his team was playing. And don't get me started on how he acted at practice and camps. Dude was ate up and put pussy over his responsibilities as a coach and mentor. That's why he was fired.

Yep. Vandy lost a home regional as the #1 overall seed in 2007. They also were the #2 overall seed in 2013, after a 54-10 record and 26-3 SEC record, and lost in the supers. But then they made, and won, the CWS the following year when they weren't a national seed and had a 17-13 record in the SEC.

They would have put on these shoulder pads and mowed over the competition!

I think it's a given that he should have been fired. He wasn't necessarily fired for getting strange, but for letting strange take over his coaching life and then lying about it to his boss.
