While true, maybe I give Richt more credit for 2012. They were one play away from a national championship and would have boat raced Notre Dame pretty much as Alabama did. That was a damn good team.

Good team. Not as good as 2017 or 2018.

More genius analysis from Tider04 folks. The best coach of all time is better than another coach he’s 3-0 against?? Please tell me more. lolol these Bama fans think having the GOAT equates to their retarded fan base actually having knowledge on the game lol. It’s fricking hilarious

I mean he isn’t wrong. But Bama got an established finished product that had years of head coaching experience at various levels. UGA got an established recruiter.

Do you expect the next 10 years to be the same?

It could always be worse. You live it everyday as a delusional vol fan obsessed with 1990.

Getting rid of Smart in the next three years would be monumentally stupid. If we won’t to beat UT, Auburn, UF and Tech most years Smart is by far the best coach for UGA. Now, if we aren’t competitive in the SEC and lose to the Vandys and uScs then he’d have to go. It’s amazing how much fans other than UGA fans think about Smart and UGA.

Based on the last 40? I'd say the odds favor it.

Made possible only because of the system in place. All things being equal, there is literally nothing separating the two coaches except a national title appearance - which was only made possible due to the change in systems used to crown a national champion. If the BCS still existed in 2017, Smart would still have the same number of national championship appearances: zero. Kirby even has it easier than Richt did due to the advent of the playoffs and the enhanced reputation of the SEC.

This is more a statement of how good Richt was in his first 7 years than an indictment of Smart being no better. Richt set a pretty high bar in the beginning. If it weren’t for the playoff Smart would have one less loss.....if there’d been a playoff Richt may well have had a couple extra losses or even a NT. Richt was pretty damn good in the beginning. If we lose 3-4 games in back to back seasons in 2 years we should revisit.....but if we’re still finishing most seasons with one regular season loss and one in the SEC championship game and a top 4-8 finish most years Smart ain’t going nowhee

An argument can be made that his 2018 team was better, and that’s when the richt guys were gone.

Meh, that 2018 team wasn't all that great. Jalen Hurts came in and lit them up like a Christmas tree and they didn't even make the playoffs. At least the 2017 team won the SECC and made it to the natty. The 2012 team was likely better than any Kirby led team. That 2012 Bama team was badass and 2012 UGA took them to the brink.

He just mailed it in at UGA his last 7 years.

FIFY

His recruiting classes from '10 to '13 were one the worst four year stretches for recruiting in modern UGA history.

What? It had one of the worst rushing defenses in UGA history.

Richt lost some fire his last few years in Athens. His wife battling cancer may have played a big part in that. That said, he was fantastic at UGA through 2012. Kirby is a much better recruiter, but he's not nearly as good a gameday coach as Richt was in his prime. Having tons of talent can only cover coaching deficiencies so much.

Is a team only measured by their rushing D? That 2012 UGA team had a dynamic QB in Murray, a beast at RB in Todd Gurley and solid receivers in King and Mitchel. That defense also held a pretty darn good AJ McCarron to like 160 yards passing. You guys have short memories and also hate to admit that Richt may have been as good or better at points than Kirby has been so far.

No he didn’t. He made a 1980 comment to a far more specific question. Chances of Kirby getting lazy are slim. You know it. You fear it.

Perhaps but Urban Meyer showing up on the scene along with Saban made it difficult for him to raise his game.

If he was at Bama,UF or AU they woulda canned em in '10.I will say he wasn't helped muxh by his tight fisted AD or the administration
