There are certainly trees on campus but nothing like you have in the South. We get half the rain you do. Most of the trees are 40 feet or less compared to the giant trees you have at most SEC schools, there are also virtually no pine trees. There are also many open areas where we used to have Bonfire and on the multiple old drill fields.

ATM Campus is NOT covered in trees.
Ole MIss / Alabama / UGA are campuses that are covered in trees.
But that does not mean you cant find one. Spence park next to stadium is a good spot. But I hear that it is pretty hard to find a place in there, if your not ATM fans/alumni.

Don't have an open container in the bar area (Norhgate). That's the only area it's really enforced. On campus it's perfectly legal to have one and the neighborhoods east and south of campus no fricks are given as long as you don't act dumb

Ags, let's be serious here.
Our trees simply do not compare to their trees.
While we ARE the biggest and best school in the SEC, but we don't have to claim being "the best" at absolutely everything.
To have BIG trees, you need OLD trees. Most SEC schools are at least fifty years older than TAMU. Georgia and Tennesee are nearly a CENTURY older than TAMU.
Hell, some of those schools have a dozen individual TREES older than our entire school.
TAMU was not built to be pretty. It would built in a desolate stretch of abandoned prairie, because there was a railroad and the land was cheap.
Our campus doesn't even have a CREEK, because a water source would have driven-up the price of the land. Consequence? The land had no trees.
You should see the pictures from when my grandfather was enrolled in the 1930s.
We are growing our trees, and the campus will be much "greener" in a generation, but we will NEVER have the trees found in the Deep South, simply because the climate and the micro-environment are both wrong.
So, let's stop arguing this point. Please? It just makes us look like a mob of egotistical chest-beaters. Thanks.

I didn't make any comparisons.
I was addressing the incorrect comment that we don't have trees.
We do.

Spence will be a really easy place to set up a tent. To find shade, not so much, but it is huge.

No, Spence is pretty big, there's always space available there.

Good post Hank
There are many things that are great about A&M and this area of Texas. Trees are not included in that list. It is the one thing I think we really make this place more beautiful. It does not quite have the Southwest, desert feel so it seems like there should be trees. I obsess over rain since I grew up as a farmer, and the rain here is simply not enough to support trees. The soils are not great either. It was it is. Be proud of what you have AGs (it's great) and quit acting like you have it all.

I have been waiting a long time to talk about the tree situation round here.

Yeah the other problem is that the areas we tailgate in (aside from Spence) have zero trees. West Campus has none. It makes it even more pronounced because that's where visiting fans typically are

If you set up Auburn tents, say you set up 8 tents, expect them to be replaced with Ag tents.

Our made up stories are better than that.

Agree with all of this. I think a lot of Ags are just more used to comparing our campus to other SWC/Big 12 campuses. For instance A&M has a much prettier campus than Texas or Tech as they don't really have any more trees than we do or the land we have. The SEC is a whole different ballgame.
When I went to Gainesville and the UF campus last year that was probably the starkest difference. Lots in common between Gainseville/UF and A&M/CS in terms of size of schools and towns around them. The biggest difference is the HUGE trees everywhere. I remember being frustrated actually at UF that you can't really see anything from ground level because the trees are so big and all over the place. At A&M you can see everything pretty easily, especially with any elevation at all.
A&M has a nice campus but it simply isn't going to win the beauty contests with old SEC schools which are older, built on better soil for growing stuff, and get a LOT more rain. A&M also doesn't really have any hills or mountains, rivers or lakes, or certainly an ocean nearby.
Ags are a prideful and hyper competitive bunch, no denying that. Love to see the Old South camupes of the SEC though as they have just as much to be proud of.
