They were auto BCS until the very end.

An off season list that makes some sense? I can't believe my eyes

They were auto BCS, but in the end they weren't a major conference. When they had Miami, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, they were a major conference. And it's why they got into the BCS when it was formed. At the end of the BCS, when everyone who COULD get out, DID, they were a shadow clinging to their contractual access to the BCS.

auto-bid = major conference
Hence why the conferences that didn't/don't have them are called mid-majors.

During Strong's four years at Louisville, he had exactly two conference games against a ranked opponent.

Pretty good list imo.

And still won a BCS bowl.

Louisville just moved up to a power 5 conference that they are the 4th best program in. They have just as nice a stadium as Ole Miss and aren't in the hardest division in football.
Boise dominated the group of 5 year in and year out, there is something to be said for that.

There is a slightly different ranking elsewhere on ESPN for SEC jobs: LINK 1. UF 2. Bama 3. LSU 4. UGA 5. A&M 6. Auburn 7. Tennessee 8. Arkansas 9. South Carolina 10. Ole Miss 11. Missouri 12. Miss. State 13. Kentucky 14. Vanderbilt
Move South Carolina above Arkansas and Mizzou above Ole Miss and it's accurate.

Agreed and I'd also flip Bama and UF, and UGA and LSU.

LOL... I'm a SC fan, FSU is a better coaching job than SC for two reasons.
1. Florida talent
2. Tradition
Those two things make it easier for FSU to recruit at the elite level.
The money, facilities and coaching are about on par. Access to talent and tradition are what make FSU great. SC is a great job, but it's success relies heavily on in state talent.. We do recruit Georgia, NC and Florida decently. SC is a small state that produces a small amount of elite talent every year, but there's lots of competition for that talent.. Clemson, then UGA, then Tennessee..occasionally Florida and Alabama. It's much more difficult to recruit at SC. Whereas, there's a bevy of talent in Florida.. more than enough to go around for FSU, Miami and Florida.
Personally, I think FSU is a better job than UGA and Notre Dame as well but you could easily argue why it's not.
I don't think FSU fans, administration or alumni realize what a boon to the school it would be if FSU joined the SEC. I'm not advocating for them, because frankly, I don't want another beast in the East.. but seriously, FSU is nowhere near as good as they could POTENTIALLY be.

The Big East sucks as a football conference, don't even know why you're trying to argue otherwise.

A&M did win 8 Conference Titles in the previous 15 years though (9 if you count the undefeated '94 season that we were ineligible but destroyed the SWC). How many Conference Titles does Arky have in the last 30 years?
Bragging about SWC titles?

The '00s were a dark period for A&M but it is also noteworthy that even then we were such an "unattractive job" that we hired away the HC from BAMA. The fact he was a disaster doesn't take away from the fact that at the time he was the hottest coach in the country and we stole him from a blue blood. In '82 A&M went and hired Sherrill from Pitt and made him the highest paid coach in the country (the first with a million dollar contract). A&M hasn't involuntarily lost a coach since Bear Bryant.
There's a very good reason why Fran left Alabama when he did.
The SWC in the '80s was definitely legit and loaded with Top 20 teams. In the '90s it certainly faded but A&M also didn't even lose a conference game for most or the '90s and didn't have a losing season from '84-03. A&M may not have been Miami or Nebraska but it was a rock solid program for that period.
That's why Fran left Bama for A&M (along with A&M throwing huge amounts of money at him). Did he think Bama was going on probation? Sure, but if Bama is Bama then how to they lose a coach they don't want to lose to poor old A&M?
If the list is supposed to be "top jobs" then it would seem to be relevant which jobs coaches actually take or leave. It would also seem to be relevant which programs have consistently paid top dollar to coaches.

Fran was trying to leave Alabama as soon as he arrived. He talked to Kansas the year prior to leaving. He felt he was misled over the NCAA probation and how serious it would become. He left a 10 year 15 million dollar extension on the table when he left. Which would have made him one of the highest paid coaches in 2002.

Winning a BCS bowl means you're in a major conference?
Boise St. will be excited to learn that.

Possibly, but he'll leave it with top flight facilities and an embarrassment of riches.

The one and only reason was the sanctions. Lets just stop fricking around.

The Big East doesn't exist anymore in football. Guess you didn't know that though.
