So it’s an NYT article from November 8, 2014, and they did use Facebook to generate the map.
Here’s a quote on what they were measuring.
“Here, we are looking at another question: not which teams fans root for, but the proportion of the population in various places who are fans of any college football team. We asked Facebook to compile that information, and the results offer a portrait of America’s college-football obsession — or lack thereof.”

I think its percentage of viewers in those areas who watch CFB and not based on total viewers.
Yes, this is most certainly the case. All that deep red from the cornfields of Nebraska isn't coming from raw numbers of viewers.

And the problem with that is nobody under 40 uses facebook anymore so you're missing a massive portion of the college football fanbase.

Not to mention a good reflection of which teams were doing good in 2014

Supposedly there are more people watching college football on Saturday in Birmingham metro than all of NYC. That takes an insanely high % share in Bham and absurdly low NYC share to pull off.

Just from reading about 5 of that guy's posts on X and I can tell you should never use any info from him ever again unless it has been double checked and triple stamped.

You’re sure of that?
Isn’t viewership of all sports on the decline among younger people?

X literally tells you your dumbass premise is incorrect.
“This picture is from a Sports Illustrated article from 2014 and illustrates “likes” on Facebook associated with college football, not viewership of college football games.”

No idea. I haven't heard that.

That's not viewers. Besides Texas would be much darker if it was viewers.

My experience is the bars are packed in NYC on both Saturday for college and Sunday for the pros.

Can't believe aggy isn't in that group of 18. Those A-holes are into football and there are a lot of them. Least way more than a few from that group.
