The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee announced a proposal today to move the 3-point line from the current 20 feet, 9 inches to the International Basketball Federation distance of 22 feet, 1.75 inches for the 2019-20 season in Division I men’s college basketball. The lane would stay the same and not be widened, with the hope that the post play would continue. The goal was to make the shot a bit harder and more importantly, to create uniformity with the international game.

If the recommendation is approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel on June 5, the rule would take effect for the 2019-20 season in Division I.

It like it. Definitely think NCAA should move toward International rules.

NBA is a little too far for college IMO. Not all of these kids are gonna be professionals, International is far enough.

Sounds like the REC at work again! Auburn sets records for 3's, and now they're changing rules!

For some reason I also thought about the REC in regards to this rule.

Wouldn't have mattered with my boy Bryce Brown shooting that thing from way downtown

Harper had that Trae Young range too

Ha yep. Not even a 3-1 fast break in our favor would deter a 3 from Brown and he usually made ‘em.

Dammit, it seemed like everytime we played AU in Auburn Arena Harper would drain 3 or 4 from the midcourt AU logo.

When Harper had what would have been an easy layup on a fast break vs Tennessee in the SECTCG, but then he turned away from the basket at the last second and shoveled it outside to Bryce who drained the 3, I lost my mind when they did that.

That was honestly one of the nost disrespectful plays I've seen in any sport considering we were already up by like 20. If I was a Tennessee fan I think I might have thrown my TV out the window right then.

The NBA needs to take the 3 completely out of the game.

what? That's one of the worst takes I've heard in a while. That will never happen. There's some people pushing to add a 4 point line or zones

Why would you even want to get rid of the 3 pointer? How old are you?

I’m still little old fashioned. Still believe in the concept that has to be dusted off from time to time, the mid range jump shot, but yeah that play was awesome. It took me a while to get used to them shooting 3s on the break but if they go in, what can you say?

Both Sharife and 2021Jerdarrion Davison have said they liked the way Bruce treated his PG and I’m sure the green light was a part of it. I want more.

the mid range jump shot,

Meh, seems likes Pops insistence on working the mid range game held my Spurs back at times this season. The analytics seem to support the idea that its almost not worth it if you can shoot a 3 or drive to the rim instead

35

Players have become too reliant on it. Some games are downright comedy. Especially during the regular season.

Watching the GS/HOU game now. GS is 3-10 from 3 and HOU is 3-7. Pure foolishness

Bro, 3-7 isn't bad at all that's almost 43% which is solid af. 3-10 isn't exactly awful either when it's still fairly early in the game bc more likely than not the stats say they'll go on a little run and pick up the pace.

The analytics say that shooting 3s you get about the same points per attempt as close range shits. The mid range game is by far the least valuable shot in basketball, you only get about 0.8 points per attempt shooting from mid range.

Take away the 3 and the game would be even worse. Teams would just be trying to drive to the hoop on every possession, but on defense teams would just be clogging up the middle all night making it a lot harder to score in the paint. Scoring would plummet. It wouldn't just be boring, it would be downright shitty basketball. It would take away so much strategy and make the game unwatchable. The average athlete today is world's different from before they added the 3 pt line, it just wouldn't work in today's game.

You must not watch a lot of basketball to have a ridiculous opinion like that

I don't have a problem with it.Why not shoot 15 foot jumpers more often?

Can anyone hit them?

Its hard enough for some teams to rebound.

I would put it at 21 feet.
