The 2013 and 2014 teams just had different identities. Goes to show the same thing that always won titles still wins titles not all this trendy HUHN stuff. Bama won with a nasty defense and smash mouth running game. Kiffin mixed it up enough to keep opposing DCs off balance.
So I think Blake had a very different role than Jake and we were more finesse in 2013 because we needed to be.....

Coker no doubt! Sims had Amari cooper and looked his way every time, which also led to picks in big time games. Coker had Ridley who wasn't near as good as Cooper was for us last year, and still made big time throws. Last I checked Coker only had 1 turnover the second half of the season and Sims had 6 picks in 3 games to finish the year. Point made.

Definitely true, spot on. On that note, Saban has surprised me in recent years with his willingness to adapt and change. I think after our first couple great teams under him, we all kind of assumed we knew what kind of team he wanted. But he's really shown himself to be a true pragmatist and changed what he does to best suit his personnel each year, to adjust to what other teams are doing, etc. Kiffin hire was genius for example. It's fun to watch.

I'm just discussing 1 game and how I think someone played in it. And disputing the notion that Coker was some godlike finisher of football games while Sims shite his pants. Weren't all of Sims' INTs in the first half? Yeah, I'm gonna question how that applies to the arguments in here when they're used to show how Sims sucked in critical situations at times.

Coker didn't have his best game against Ole Miss, you're right, but he was brought into the game with his team down 17-3. The kid felt he had to take some chances. That one turnover in the fourth quarter that iced the game for Ole Miss was as much Kiffin's fault as it was Coker's.
Ole Miss's defensive line was gassed and we were running the ball (seemingly) at will. Coker had just scrambled for a pretty good chunk of yardage. Instead of continuing to pound the ball down their throats and chew clock, Kiffin went for the home run ball. Stupid play call but he got better with play calling as the year progressed.

It's hard for me to explain the way I'm thinking of each QB's good and bad over a forum. They were both great QBs with championships and will forever be remembered as champions at the University of Alabama. That's all I could ask of them. RTR!

Yeah and heard Saban speak about that directly as well as Kiffin....words to the effect is they go out and get the best players they can possibly land at each position ....of course you don't know how they all may pan out so you tailor your philosophy to your strengths instead of trying force guys into a system.
When you have an athletic QB and best receiver in the game we are going to air it out more. We couldn't rely on the defense and running game in 2013 the way we could in 2014.

Again, I am not blaming the loss on Coker. This was all a response to the OP blaming losses on Sims and then in the same breath saying Coker never made costly turnovers. Blame it on Kiffin, blame it on the gods, I don't give a shite, if your team is down 6 with 2 and a half minutes to go in the game and you throw an interception, that is objectively a costly turnover. Surely we can agree on that?
You can't use one standard to judge Sims, blaming losses on him, and then turnaround and start making excuses for Coker about how he didn't start that game, and it was kiffin's fault anyway, and the game wasn't really on the line and blah blah blah.
Both were great players who led us to glory. Both made some very costly turnovers that contributed to us losing games. Really don't see how this is a controversial thing to say.

Both are rock stars relative to Bama lore. Worth the price of admission without a doubt. Great memories, check. The thing Coker could do that no QB at Bama could do consistently since Hollingsworth, hit the wide open guy. Tip of the cap Jako.

And Coker had Henry to take a lot of pressure off the passing game. There was a period where Henry scored all Bama's offensive TDs. Coker wasn't asked to do much due to Henry and that defense. Also you can't just look at 2nd half of Coker's season you got to look at the whole year. Sims was also 4th in the nation in total QBR.
