Who knows but Bowden did get to play in 5 title games and only won 2 of them.

"Title Games" is kind of a loose term before the BCS...

Was 1996 a "Title Game"? Florida needed #2 Arizona State to lose. If we had the BCS that year, it would have been FSU vs. Arizona State, and then Spurrier never wins one...

Even with a "Title Game" in 1998, we got pushed into that game against Tennessee through fluke upsets of UCLA and Kansas State. That was one of the years where we definitely weren't going to win it with a backup QB. A bigger playoff would have produced Tennessee vs. Ohio State or Kansas State

And you can't convince me Georgia Tech and Colorado were the best teams in 1990

It's just the nature of the sport. The further you go back, the more screwy things get. Hell, I thought one of the best Spurrier teams was in 2001. I honestly think they would have been the best matchup vs. 2001 MIami. Could have been a legendary game. Instead Miami got a lay up vs. Nebraska and Eric Crouch....

Okay? It still doesn't change the fact that Bowden played in 5 title games (and was extremely lucky to make two of them) and only won it twice.

Kind of like Spurrier was lucky to get 1 at all, which was a mulligan game, and even needed Buckeye help to win it?

I mean you can spin things all you want. It was the poll era

Does Bowden win a split in '87 if he simply ties Miami instead of goes for 2?

And do you really think FSU doesn't win a few more with a playoff? Cmon now

where did I complain about FSU getting left out?

I responded to a poster complaining about WVU getting left out and that, despite getting an easier bowl matchup than FSU, lost said bowl match up (to your team no less) and wouldn't have had a good claim to a national title regardless. Also a point of interest, FSU was #1 in the AP heading into bowl season. It was Nebraska and WVU fighting for the last spot.

When Notre Dame and FSU faced each other in November, FSU was #1 and Notre Dame #2. FSU lost and fell to #2. Notre Dame lost the very next week, and FSU moved right back to #1 and stayed there.

West Virginia played virtually no one the entire season until they played Miami in late November., They slowly climbed up the polls but flat-lined at #3 by season's end

and again, FSU didn't win or have a good claim to the 2023 national title either, so what exactly is your point here?

"WVU played no one!"

Well this who each team played before the bowls:

1993 WVU: #22, #25, #10, #15
2023 FSU: #13, #24, #16

Well, you can safely say that West Virginia would have made a 4 team playoff. What happened with FSU in 2023? What, the polls didn't determine the match-ups? It was done by a committee? FSU was #4 in the AP and Coaches (and simulated BCS) in 2023

Same thing that happened to WVU in 1993 - both Bama and Texas had harder schedules.

I’m still waiting for you to make a point. You’ve interjected an argument about 2023 FSU that hasn’t been made. So o guess I can assume you agree that neither WVU nor FSU were screwed. So what exactly are you supposed to be countering in relation to what I said about the 1993 season?

I did but what does what I said have to do about 2023 FSU, a point you have belabored for several posts now. I mean damn your own team beat that WVU team to end their undefeated season and you’re in here seemingly white knighting for a rival in a different season that had very different circumstances

You quoted me first and brought up 1993 WVU's schedule. So you DO care.

It's really not the same thing...two different eras in college football. Being left out of the top 2 and being left out of the top 4 don't equate, especially when being decided by different governing entities

And "harder schedules" wasn't the explanation on why FSU was left out in 2023...

Regardless, playing it out on the field is always better than poll or committee opinions and hypotheticals

I brought up WVU’s schedule because the discussion was about the 1993 title Bowden won. I responded directly to a post you made about that season. Then you pivoted to an inane argument about 2023 FSU losing their bowl game.

It’s always been FSU logic, not mine.
