Claimed titles 1936- present, but not selected by AP or Coach's poll.....

I think this is all of the claimed titles in the AP and coach's poll era that were claimed without winning those polls. If I missed one, let me know and I'll add it. I am not necessarily saying the AP or UPI champ has no claim, I'm just saying that some of these teams that didn't win those polls have a right to claim at least a share.
-I provide my reasoning for each case below but here are my verdicts in short summary if you don't want to read it all.
-I put (weak) and (strong) on my rejections of the claim.
-Weak means the claim of a championship is weak and not worth arguing.
- Strong means the the claim of the championship is a good one, and worth arguing even if I disagree.
1938- Tennessee should claim this title.
1940- Tennessee should not claim the title. (weak claim)
1941- Alabama should not claim the title. (weak claim)
1942- Georgia should claim the title.
1950- Tennessee should claim the title.
1950- Kentucky should not claim the title. (strong claim)
1959- Ole Miss should not claim the title (strong claim)
1960- Ole Miss should claim the title.
1962- Ole Miss should not claim the title. (strong claim)
1964- Arkansas should claim the title.
1967- Tennessee should not claim the title. (weak claim)
1938 Tennessee
The case- Tennessee was undefeated and beat 4th ranked and regular season undefeated Oklahoma in their bowl game. They are named as national champion by ten major selectors recognized by the NCAA as such.
The AP champ- TCU Horned Frogs were undefeated as well and beat sixth ranked Carnegie Tech (Who?) in their bowl game. Bowl games weren't a factor in the AP poll then as the final poll was done before the game. Perhaps Tennessee's 17-0 beatdown of Oklahoma would've given Tennessee the AP poll as well.
Verdict: Tennessee has as good or better claim to the title as TCU. They should claim it.
1940- Tennessee
The case- Tennessee had an undefeated regular season. Their closest game was a 13-0 shutout win over Duke. They lost their bowl game vs. no. 5 Boston College who did not lose any game.
The AP champion: Minnesota went 8-0 with victories over two top ten opponents.
The verdict: Tennessee only selected as national champ by one major selector. Minnesota was selected by 11 including the AP. Stanford, also undefeated, was selected by four. BC, also undefeated and victors over Tennessee in the bowl game was selected by none. Tennessee should not claim this title.
1941 Alabama
The case- Alabama was selected by Houlgate as national champion, one of the recognized major selectors. Alabama lost two regular season games (Vandy and Mississippi State). Alabama won their bowl game vs.9th ranked A&M.
The AP champion: Minnesota went 8-0 and beat two top ten ranked teams in the process. They were selected by 11 major selectors as national champ.
The verdict: Minnesota shouldn't share this title. They were undefeated with what was likely a tougher schedule. Texas (9-1-1) had more selectors choose their team than Alabama and they do not claim this as a national title. Alabama was ranked 20th in the AP final poll this year. Alabama should not claim this title. Strange that they do claim this one since there are others where they have a better claim (not necessarily a good claim) that they do not recognize.
1942 Georgia
The case: Georgia was named as champion by eight major selectors. They finished 11-1 with a bowl win over UCLA in the Rose Bowl (a neutral game in name only). Georgia's only blemish came to 16th ranked Auburn on a neutral field. They beat no. 2 ranked GA. Tech 34-0, no. 3 ranked Alabama 21-10, and no. 13 ranked UCLA 9-0.
The AP champion: Ohio State. Ohio State was beaten by 6th ranked Wisconsin. They finished with a 9-1 record. They had big wins vs. no. 13 Illinois 44-20 and 4th ranked Michigan 21-7.
Verdict: Both teams have strong claims IMO. If Georgia weren't chosen by a majority of selectors, I would say no. But Georgia was chosen by 8 to Ohio State's 6. If Ohio State had the edge, I would say no. If Ohio State had gone undefeated, I would say no. But both teams played similar schedules and came out with similar results. Georgia should claim a share of this title. The AP poll wasn't as spread out with equal representation from different regions. The a majority of the writers were in the northeast and Great Lakes areas which favored Ohio State.
1950: Tennessee and Kentucky
The case: Tennessee went 11-1. They defeated no. 14 Duke 28-7, no. 3 Kentucky 7-0, and no. 3 Texas 20-13. Tennessee was selected by 7 major selectors, the most by any team. Tennessee's loss was terrible to a Mississippi State team that went 4-5-1 that year by a 7-0 score in Starkville.
The case II: Kentucky went 11-1. They beat 17th ranked UF 40-6, but lost their last regular season game of the season to Tennessee. They did beat that same Miss. State team Tennessee lost to 48-21 in Starkville. The big thing here is Kentucky matched up against AP champ Oklahoma in the bowl game and beat them 13-7.
AP champ and UPI champ (Coach's poll): Oklahoma. This of course was voted on before the bowl games and Oklahoma would almost certainly not have won if the polls were done as they were from the mid 70's to present. They were undefeated until playing Kentucky and had beaten no. 4 Texas 14-13 and no. 16 Nebraska 49-35.
The verdict: Tennessee was named by 7 selectors to Oklahoma's 6 and finished the year with two impressive top three wins vs. Kentucky and Texas.
Kentucky was only named by one selector, Sagarin. And Sagarin actually called it a tie between Kentucky and Tennessee. Kentucky doesn't have a bad loss, but with only one selector and it being split, I'm gonna say Tennessee should claim it, but Kentucky shouldn't.
1959 Ole Miss
The case: Ole Miss went 10-1 this year with all ten wins semi to huge blowouts. Impressive victories include a 28-0 win vs. no. 10 Arkansas and a 38-7 win vs. no. 9 Tennessee. There only loss was to no. 1 LSU in Red Stick. And they avenged that loss in a rare seasonal rematch 21-0 in the bowl game.
The AP UPI champ: Syracuse and Syracuse has an excellent resume and a perfect record. Syracuse beat no. 7 Penn State 20-18 in Happy Valley, no. 17 UCLA 36-8 in LA and no. 4 Texas 23-14 in the Cotton Bowl. They had a 14 point win vs. Kansas to start the season and no other unranked team came within 26 points of them.
Verdict: I understand Ole Miss claiming this title. This team was great and may have beaten Syracuse in a head to head. Still, we didn't get that matchup and there's no real objective criteria that argues in favor of Ole Miss here. Syracuse easily won the selector battle 15-4 and there's nothing in the on field resumes that says they were worse than Ole Miss. They were perfect, Ole Miss wasn't, so I'm gonna say Ole Miss shouldn't claim it.

1960 Ole Miss
The case: Ole Miss went 10-0-1 this year. The tie? Guess who. The same team that robbed them of a perfection the previous season, LSU. Ole Miss beat no. 14 Arkansas in LRock 10-7. They beat no. 14 Tennessee in Knoxville 24-3. They did not get a sterling matchup in the Sugar Bowl. They played an unranked Rice and won 14-6. Ole Miss was selected by the most selectors as National Champs getting a total of 7.
The AP and UPI champ: Minnesota
Minnesota went 8-1 in the regular season and beat no. 1 Iowa 27-10 in their 7th game. They immediately dropped their next game to an unranked Purdue team. They opened with a 26-14 win vs. no. 12 Nebraska in Lincoln. They had a few competitive games against unranked opponents and then lost their bowl game to no. 6 Washington to finish 8-2.
The verdict: I don't have any problem with Ole Miss claiming this title. This team wasn't as good as the 1959 team, but it's much easier to make the argument vs. the Minnesota team. Minnesota got the big polls, but didn't even get the second most selectors as Iowa got five to their four. Ole Miss should claim it.
1962 Ole Miss
The case: Ole Miss went undefeated this year, a perfect 10-0. They beat no. 4 LSU in BR, 15-7. They beat no. 6 Arkansas 17-13 in the Sugar Bowl. I don't think this team was as good as 1959 as they struggled against some unranked opponents. They were named champs by three selectors.
The AP and UPI champ: USC. USC was a perfect 11-0. They beat no. 8 Duke 14-7, no. 9 Washington 14-0, and no. 2 Wisconsin (undefeated until the bowl game) in the Rose Bowl 42-37. They were chosen by 13 selectors.
The verdict: While both teams finished undefeated, USC seems to have played a slightly tougher schedule with a tougher opponent at the end of the season. With the vast majority of selectors choosing USC's pefection to Ole Miss' perfection, I think Ole Miss shouldn't claim this one.
1964 Arkansas
The case: Arkansas went undefeated going 11-0. Arkansas beat no. 1 Texas 14-13 and no. 6 Nebraska 10-7 in the Cotton Bowl. After a couple of close games to opent the season against Oklahoma State and Tulsa, they beat all of their other unranked opponents by double digits.
The AP and UPI champ: Alabama. Alabama went 10-0 in the regular season beating no. 9 Florida, no. 8 LSU and no. 10 Georgia Tech. Two of the games were close wins. They had some close wins vs. unranked teams. But all of that really doesn't matter because Alabama lost their bowl game and they lost to a team that undefeated Arkansas beat. The tide lost to the Longhorns 17-21 in the Orange Bowl.
The verdict: Arkansas should absolutely claim this title. They beat the team that beat the team and were the only perfect team of note this season. They were also chosen by 7 selectors to Alabama's 4.
1967 Tennessee
The case: Tennessee had a 9-1 regular season with a 24-13 win over no. 6 Bama in Birmingham. They played no other ranked teams except their opener vs. UCLA in California. They lost 16-20. Didn't exactly torch their unranked opponents for the most part. Lost their bowl game to no. 3 Oklahoma 24-26 in the Orange Bowl.
The AP and UPI champ: USC. USC beat no. 4 Texas 17-13, no. 5 Notre Dame 24-7, no. 1 UCLA 21-20 and no. 4 Indiana in the Rose Bowl 14-3. They lost to an unranked Oregon State in Corvalis 0-3.
The verdict: This is just not close and a ridiculous claim by Tennessee. USC was named by 12 selectors. Tennessee by one. OU and Notre Dame were also named by one and had the decency not to claim it.
None of which was the UPI or AP. BAMA got molested in the polls in 1966 with an undefeated team that crushed Nebraska in the bowl. They lost to 2 teams who went for the tie against each other and they didn't even play in a bowl. BAMA was also going for a 3-peat.
We should learn to live with what we can't change. And back then we all were entered in a beauty contest. Live with it, dude.

If you claimed it, I might have backed you. Maybe not as most selectors didn't choose you. But I'd say you had an argument, even so. It certainly would be a better claim than the 1941 title. That's a weird one.
Again, I wasn't arguing Bama shouldn't be national champ in 1964, just that Arkansas' claim is legit.

Why do I need you to back me up? In 1964 UPI and AP claimed it for us. In 1966 you live with what you can't change.
If teams actually played each other for championships for over 100 years, the entire history of college football would look much different. That's not my fault, or yours, or BAMA's. I wouldn't spend a minute of my time worrying about a beauty contest that nobody around here these days even saw. Trying to make a federal case out of it now is superfluous.

Calm down son, I didn't file a case. This a post just looking at whether teams had right to claim the title and whether I personally thought they should claim it. I'm just one person you don't even know. It's gonna be all right.

Sure, Bama got screwed in '66... but there are several things to consider.
The ND-MSU "game of the century" was all anybody talked about. Meanwhile, Bama's last six games of the season consisted of a dogshit set of teams that had a combined 19-40-1 combined record. Bama simply got upstaged that year.
Also
Notre Dame had a "no bowl" policy back then...
Michigan State was victim of the conference "no return" Rose Bowl policy back then and the Big Ten wouldn't entertain any other bowls. ...
And of course... don't forget...
Nebraska "didn't wanna be there" against Alabama after their heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma ruined their undefeated season LOL.

I’ve never understood why Tennessee doesn’t claim 1938. On top of everything that you listed, they outscored their opponents 293-16 that year. It’s honestly stronger than any of the non-consensus titles that they claim. 1967 is embarrassing, and I have no clue why it is claimed. The AD didn’t even start recognizing that team as national champions until the late 90s-early 00s.

Why 1936?
3 of 4 of Aggie undisputed football championships happened before 1936

The AP poll started in 1936 and is recognized as the main poll along with the coaches poll, today.
No chance of a spit title ever again now, but that's the reason.
And the AP kind of gained clout as it went along. It wasn't just assumed to be the best in its first years. In fact, as I stated in the OP, it was considered very biased at its start as most of the writers were from the Northeast and Great Lakes areas.

That's a lot of work just to make claim to a title you never claimed for the better part of a century.
