I cannot recall Spurrier playing many black quarterbacks—if any, so I doubt if Chris Leak would have been his guy.
Wow.

Syvelle Newton was his first that i can remember and he inherited him (even tried to move him to WR before returning him to QB out of necessity)

That was most glaring part to me also. Saban's comments on the Sugar Bowl and how the fan's intensity affects how HIS frickING team plays is such a bush league excuse. HE didn't have HIS team ready. HIS coaches got out-coached and HE got out-coached. I have a feeling things are going to get interesting around Tuscaloosa in the next few years. If he don't do something big with all that insane talent he's bringing in I'm not sure the mighty Saban can withstand the even mightier fury the Alabama fans and boosters will unleash.

From that article, chris warner seems like a shite talking little bitch. So much for good journalism.

The only problem I have with the article is the reference to Spurrier and Leak.

Thought it was a good read, but I could do without the little swipes like the Spurrier comment and this one:
quote:
a winning record and a bowl victory to a pride-starved bastion of football-loving Southerners who seemingly thought for years that winning football was as much or more elusive as indoor plumbing and meth-free junior high schools.

"For all the free media hype Nick Saban and Alabama received during the 2008 season, the press sure gave them a free pass when they regressed down the stretch"
An SEC team went undefeated in regular season, sure we are going to get media hype, however we got nowhere near the amount of hype that the big 12 teams or USC recieved.
"Furthermore, in the wake of the embarrassing 31-17 Superdome loss to a “non-BCS conference” Saban was at a loss for answers. Instead, he offered only excuses. Quoting the Sugar Bowl Post-Game transcript, he said, “We were a young team this year…we need more good players, more depth…we need more quality big guys…more quality skills guys.”
"Consider the following: After the SEC Championship loss to Florida Nick commented that Alabama was “still the only team to have an undefeated regular season in a BCS conference.”
What is wrong with Saban saying these things?? They are all true.
"And perhaps the most peculiar and telling Freudian slip by “Little Bear” during his post-Sugar Bowl presser comments was the following: “And I'd like to thank all the press that covered us this week. I think you all did a fantastic job. I think you always do a fantastic job of giving our players a lot of positive self-gratification for the hard work that they do. We certainly appreciate that.” If you didn’t catch it, consider Webster’s definition of ‘self-gratification’: “The act of pleasing oneself or satisfying one’s desires, especially the satisfying of one’s own sexual urges.”
Do I really have to explain this one?

I've read a few other blogs by the guy, and he is definitely biased. Its not a big deal, I just thought he would've spent a little more time on Les Miles since that was in the name of the article, but instead he seems obsessed with Nick Saban

It is an unfortunate fact of life that everytime Miles coaching ability is discussed, it cannot be done without discussing it in the context of Nick Saban...by LSU fans, by the media, by Alabama fans. It's pretty unbelievable to me how this just will not die. I have never in my life seen a coach given so little credit for success. And LSU fans are as much to blame as anybody. Even in our denials, we end up belittling what Miles has done by the compulsive need to compare him to, or tear down Nick Saban.

Well, he also talked about Meyer, Spurrier and Ole Miss yet the only part everyone is obsessed with is the part about Saban. He's nothing more than another coach in our conference. The difference is he brought us back to prominence and now he happens to coach a division foe. Excuse the frick out of me for EVER talking about Nick.

I don't think he directed that at you. I took it as a general observation. And, i agree with what he said. It seems that alot of LSU fans still can't get over it. Not you specifically, but alot. I'm like you in the way, i respect what he did, but he's just a coach. That's it. No more. No less. He's not Alabama, and he wasn't LSU when he worked for us. He was a paid employee. Just like a person working at the Chik-fil-a. They have no emotional attachment to that job. It's just a job to him.
I understand why Warner mentions him is b/c he lives in Alabama, and I'm sure he's tired of hearing about Sabanmania. Just like a reporter covering LSU in MS would talk about MS State or OM.

Oh yeah, I know it wasn't directed at me but I just love how we're not allowed to EVER talk about Saban. The minute anyone mentions his name we're obsessed.

Warner is an LSU homer, no doubt about it. I won't defend his personal shots at Saban (which I think are classless), but his points about Saban blaming the fans are valid. No reason for Nick to do that. He should have said the team wasn't prepared, my fault, we won't let it happen again. I like Nick, and I think he is a fantastic coach. But he does have a history of doing this.

Not to mention he wasn't "talking shite" but more like calling it like it is. I'm sorry if funky can't handle that but it's true.

Some of his points were stupid and frivolous though, look at my above post.
