Changing Of The Guard...

Well, I think it goes without saying that LSUs run of the last decade is officially over. To that point, they are not even worth discussing except to point out that they are no longer a viable threat in the SECw and that will probably be the case for a few years (until Miles is gone and a suitable replacement is hired - big assumption on both parts).
Bama has now lost its last three games against ranked opponents. While undoubtedly the most talented team in the country, things just don't seem right in Tuscaloosa to me.
It is arguable that Alabama could lose at least one or two games of those remaining on its schedule (State, Auburn and aTm).
We have seen what may be a sustainable uprising among the Mississippi schools...especially relative to Ole Miss and the talent they have coming back next year coupled with the talent they are bringing in now.
Auburn seems to have figured it out as well...great recruiting coupled with probably the best coaching in the SEC.
Are we about to see both Alabama and LSU rejoin the pack and no longer be frontrunners every year? (undoubtedly with LSU - wondering more about Bama).

Clearly, there is not as much separation as there has been. Will be interesting to see if the Mississippi teams can sustain anything for a whole year, much less multiple years, but we will see.
I'm going to wait until Alabama has at least a three year national championship drought before killing myself though. I know three years seems like a completely unreasonable amount of time to go between national championships, but I'm pretty patient.

I think it's a little early in the morning to declare LSU and Alabama irrelevant programs.

LSU or Alabama will win the NC within the next 3 years. Just 2 years ago AU was winless in the SEC... Patience is key.

Lulz. LSU is not winning shite for a while. They have not won shite in a while. Stop putting yourself in Bama league. You are not even close

With how strong every program is becoming in the west I think things will ebb and flow more season to season. When the pieces come together for schools like OM and MSU like this year they are going to be at the top and you might see a younger LSU team fall back to 6 and 7 wins, Bama to 9 wins maybe. But I'm sure next season or two seasons OM and MSU will fall back to 7 or 8 wins and Bama or LSU will climb back up, and the cycle will repeat.
I think the days of two or three programs completely dominating the west are over and where each program finishes in the standings will vary much more year to year

this was declared saturday. Bama is going to enter the 10 year death rattle once saban retires.

What's sad is a lot of your fan base can say this without an ounce of sarcasm.

Did Auburn's dominance of 2010 and 2013 just not register with Bama and LSU fans?
How can the guard change if Auburn wins the conference this year? I get the miss state and ole miss factor.

Enjoy your one win in three years you'll be losing the next three.

Probably so. This run has created some spoiled rotten fans.

While I disagree relative to LSU, I am not attempting to suggest this relative to Alabama. Specifically, what I am asking is are we now entering a new phase in the SEC in which Alabama is not automatically assumed to be the odds on favorite to win the league.
Since Saban's third year at Bama, it has been safe to assume that they are nearly above reproach relative to competition in the league (as well as the rest of the country) outside of playing against LSU.
Given the success of Auburn and the recruiting and new success of Ole Miss, coupled with the decline of LSU, I wonder if things are changing, or if it is a simple as Auburn replacing LSU as Bama's main line threat to the crown and Ole Miss supplanting the Petrino led Arky teams?

Everyone has a down year. LSU has recruited way too well to be a middle of the pack program but yeah, they suck this year. As for Bama I would wait and see what happens against TAMU before declaring a down year

Success breeds expectations. Thats a good thing

Very true statement. I am including 2013 Auburn in the discussion (hence Bama losing the last three games against ranked comp).
I think the rest of the SEC, for better or for worse, views the 2010 Auburn team with an asterisk because of the Camgate ordeal.

More reasonable assessment than prematurely bailing on your team because they don't win the NC every year like...like... like...

I'd tap the breaks. LSU is bad this year, or has been, but that happens sometimes. It's hard to sustain 11 wins/year without a true rebuilding year sprinkled in.
I'm not ready to declare Bama dead either. But they have lost some of their luster. But who knows, maybe Sims will be determined not to let this happen again.
I think MSU has a little more to prove, as aTm is anything but a balanced or proven team. They were still riding a lot of hype for drumming South Carolina which just lost to fricking Kentucky.
Problem for the Mississippi Schools is that sustaining this will just be so damn hard when you compare their atmospheres to the rest of the SEC. They might ride the wave now of talent coming here to build something, but no SEC championship is going to make Starkville anything but Starkville

That is a huge misconception. The last four years, LSU has been marginal from a recruiting standpoint as compared to previous years. Last year was an anomaly, and even then, they lost three 5 star recruits out of the state to their immediate competitors and may have lost the best LB prospect in Louisiana in 20 years to UCLA.
LSU is showing a lot of signs of returning to its 1990s form.

Stop being a pussy and jump off the cliff. You are full on dumb if you think this is anywhere close to resembling the 90's.
