Does arkansas have any legit shot at poaching a P5 coach?

Nope, no shot at all

Not true at all. One of the main reasons this had to happen now is the butts weren't in the seats. As in over 2/3 of the stadium empty or tickets sole on the secondary market for 1/3 of value or less.

It made a huge difference. I spoke to one of our huge boosters in the past few days, and while many of them can give 5-10 million at one time, they cant supplant 3 seasons of crappy attendance, ticket sales, and fan participation.

Social media helps as well.

Not trolling. I know who you are looking at. I also know that Mahlzahn is the only "known" P5 coach on the list, other than Leach (and I don't think he's serious candidate)

Arkansas needs some stability, and needs to stop betting on the next "big thing".

Arkansas and Mizzou both new a new coach. Ark has the lead.

Here’s the reality. You want quality, break out the checkbook. We won’t do it, but you guys might. You dangle 10-12 million a year, plus buying out the previous contract, you’ll get someone. You should have snapped up Miles. We should have snapped him up.

Dude, 5-6 million will get not only a good coach, but a great one. Don't fall for the aggy tomfoolery!

Is it REALLY Tomfoolery? 7.5M a year in a few years is going to look like chump change. Saban and Dabo both make 9M, and many other coaches will soon be making close to seven or more

If you have someone you want, money whip them. It's better than paying 10's of millions in buyouts every few years. Arkansas is not a poor school or anything

Money may get you the coach you want but it does not guarantee results. The contracts now aren't really incentive based. Jimbo is going to get $75 million whether he busts his arse every day for the next decade or if he gets fired tomorrow for losing too many games.

I'm sure there are incentives included in the contract but how much harder would he have to work to win a natty there for a couple million extra?

So then it comes down to pride in winning which can be accomplished easier outside the SEC.

deck - that is true. It doesn't guarantee results. It also doesn't leave the program wondering "what if" .. I will give you an example

Texas could have whipped Saban if they wanted to years ago with a 10M year contract. You think they are second-guessing that decision not to do so now?

There isn't another coach out there that is a Saban period. Not at this time.

I would freaking lose it if we had given Jimbo what you guys did. He barely beat us the last 2 years with much better talent and with our terrible coaching. Petrino would have taken him to the wood shed both times. Nutt would have too, Heck... Your record for such a highly regarded coach SUCKS!

Dude, come down off of that mountain and breath the more oxygenated air...

There are only a handful of coaches in the country that we know can win at pretty much any power 5 school and Saban is the #1. Dabo, is another one.

But there are a lot of schools that thought they could buy success and it just hasn't happened. Look at Harbaugh and Tom Herman.

After 2 years, I'm still dumbfounded that people care so much how much money Jimbo makes.

A&M made more money than any other program the last 3 years. If they didn't go out and try to hire the best possible coach, then I'd be upset. But getting angry because they used that money to buy a coach they felt was the best available (and has a natty)? I don't get it.

Such a thing exists?

Not sure what the pigs need or are going to get. If you want to win the SEC-W and you aren't Bama you have to do something different. Spread, Run Spread, Triple Option.

One thing is for certain. If you can't beat the Aggies you damn sure aren't going to win anything.

I don't care what any coach makes...until you have to buy them out.

Aggies better hope Jimbo gets it done. Michigan better hope Harbaugh gets it done. The fear is a coach can come in and get complacent and you have to buy them out and then you need to drop another shite ton of money on a new coach right after that.

There is a risk. However, if Fisher hasn't made sufficient progress by the end of year four, there are A&M boosters willing and able to buy him out. At the end of year five, the buyout will only be 37.5M ...

However, I think it will work out fine. We tend to be more reasonable with our expectations. We gave Sumlin seven or so years

When you gamble big, you need to be prepared to lose big. I don't think anybody at A&M would bat an eye at firing Jimbo after year 5 if he is still struggling to go 9-3. Not when you're bringing in $220m a year (during mediocre years).

I expect Arkansas boosters to make a similar big gamble.
