College football coaches speaking anonymously with The Athletic's Bruce Feldman and Antonio Morales reportedly expressed doubt LSU football coach Lane Kiffin will be able to win a national title in Baton Rouge.

One Big 12 assistant coach told Feldman and Morales that Kiffin "should" win given LSU's resources and money, but they "got the feeling he won't."

"It's Lane. He can be his own worst enemy and has a hard time staying out of his own way. That part ain't changed," the Big 12 assistant coach told Feldman and Morales.

Another assistant coach, this one from a Big Ten program, told Feldman and Morales the new LSU leader "will find a way to get in his own way."

"He's a really good coach, but he will find a way to stir up drama, and you can say that it doesn't affect college kids, but it definitely does — and it also affects coaches," the Big Ten assistant coach said, per Feldman and Morales.

"And it's also the way he got there — we believed you that you were this reformed new man at Ole Miss, but you just showed us that you're still the same old Lane Kiffin, just skinnier and tanner. I think there's a lack of tolerance, so he better be really, really good or it could get loud quick."

Multiples coaches who spoke with The Athletic were actively rooting against Kiffin, according to Feldman and Morales.

When asked by Feldman and Morales if Kiffin would win, an AAC head coach answered, "God, I hope not," while a Mountain West head coach said, "I hope he doesn't."

There's a lot more in this story from The Athletic.

We’ll see, Indiana just won a natty no one really knows what’s gonna be what moving forward. I will say for better or worse kiffin has set him self up with lofty expectations. I am interested to see what year 2 looks like.

What do those quotes even mean?

I’ve posted this before in other threads, but I don't get all of the hate Kiffin gets for job hopping. Most of his jumps were a natural progression and the only poorly handled one was Tennessee, and that was for his "dream job."

USC Assistant - 6 years - left to be NFL head coach

Raiders Head Coach - 2 years - fired (not his choice)

Tennessee Head Coach - 1 year - left for better job
USC Head Coach - 4 years - fired (not his choice)

Alabama Assistant - 3 years - left to be head coach again

FAU Head Coach - 3 years - left for better job
Ole Miss Head Coach - 6 years - left for better job

Kiffin is great gamble for LSU but still a gamble in terms of actually winning a championship before self destructing.
