we could win some more playoff games with a backup qb. We have won 3 so far. Not bad.

Four.

We've won four so far.

Highschool stats? Ok… maybe some college stats after being there a couple years would be a better option.

Okay.

He's a RS sophomore. In 2 seasons of play he's thrown for a 73% completion percentage and a passer rating around 145. He's run for 73 yards on 22 rushes.

UGA's never lost a game he's taken a snap in. (7-0)

The vast majority of his snaps have been against top 10 opponents (FSU last year and Texas this year). All the rest of his snaps will be against top 10 teams this season.

Beck has a higher passer rating in his career (around 160) but has been around 145 with his passer rating this year. His completion percentage is about 68% for his career (64% this season). His taken a much smaller percentage of his snaps against top 10 teams. Beck has 245 career rushing yards on 127 attempts.

Stockton and Beck each played for a half against Texas in the SECCG. STockton had more yards, more yards per attempt and a higher QBR (65 to 59 for Beck). For comparison Ewers had a QBR of 70.

And Stockton as I mentioned before was viewed as being more talented as a recruit. Also as having a stronger arm, more athleticism and better downfield vision.

Beck was viewed as having better accuracy and height.

That reason is likely Kirby’s loyalty issue imo.
Beck may be a technically better QB, but he seemed distracted and bored all season.
Gunner appears to be a better leader and hungrier. Hope that plays in our favor.

35 attempts before last game spread over a couple of seasons is why he is question mark.

Of course he's a question mark.

But he is a more talented question mark.

The only nfl metrics that Stockton is behind Beck in are accuracy and height. Beck is obviously a hell of a lot more proven though.

But Stockton has more arm strength, downfield vision, speed, physical strength/power, agility, quickness of release and (according to scouts) pocket awareness.

I personally find the last one hard to believe because Beck is exceptional at getting rid of the ball to avoid getting sacked. But he does get blindsided not realizing a rush is coming sometimes... so maybe.

We don’t know based on the minuscule sample size. Kirby is absolutely shite at getting a back up QB reps. So he remains a question mark. You can feel good about if if you want but realistically he is a scrambling QB that doesn’t have the full playbook and has limited weapons around him.

not sure where you're getting any of that.

He's not a scrambling QB. He literally broke every GA high school passing record from Deshaun Watson

I get you don't want to believe he'll succeed until you see it, and I understand that. But you're mischaracterizing the TYPE of QB that he is. He isn't a run first QB. He's a pass first QB who's capable of running. His comparables in terms of recruiting were guys like Baker Mayrfield and Sam Howell.

Stocky athletic QB's who are a bit shorter than ideal and can run but are primarily passers.

He's also been in the UGA offense for 3 seasons (RS Sophomore 13 games into his 3rd year with the team). He's lacking in first team practice reps and game experience, but he's effectively in the same spot Beck was in when he took over as UGA's QB. He's not a young player with a limited playbook like you seem to suggest.

You really shouldn't try to draw conclusions about him when you seem to have no clue about what his game is even like.

The limited snaps in college he’s taken.

Didn’t Fromm and Vandergriff set highschool records too? Not impressed until he can show something in college.

So far he’s a backyard scrambler without a proven arm.

There is a reason these guys don’t translate very well. He’s not fast, but willing to scramble, can’t see over the line of scrimmage, hasn’t shown an arm.

You can fixate on what you want him to be or you can look at the film are deal with what he is today. He might hit a growth spurt and hit 6’1 or 6’2 and UGA might hire a qb coach that could develop him(it’s doubtful). But today he’s a QB that looks a bit lost and gun shy.

No your run game beat Texas. Gunner almost threw the game away to a DB that had no receiver around him.
