I would hate to see him go but if there is one place I wouldn't mind losing him to, it's Mizzou.

Candidates according to Mizzou beat writer:

Mick Cronin - University of Cincinnati

Mick Cronin's name comes up frequently whenever a major school has a vacancy. No one has been able to get him to leave Cincinnati up to this point. Could Mike Alden and Missouri get it done? In 11 years coaching at Murray State and Cincinnati, Cronin has a record of 231-131 with six NCAA Tournament appearances.

Ben Howland

Ben Howland is not working, but that has not stopped him from being a popular name for coaching vacancies this off-season. Marquette brought him in for an interview before ultimately deciding on Steve Wojciechowski. In 19 years coaching at Northern Arizona, Pittsburgh and UCLA, Howland has a 399-208 record with ten NCAA Tournament appearances.

Tim Fuller - University of Missouri

The current associate head coach for Missouri, Tim Fuller does not have any head coaching experience, aside from being the interim head coach for five games at the start of the past season. He is considered an excellent recruiter though. Would that be enough for Mike Alden to take a chance on the unproven coach?

Archie Miller - University of Dayton

Archie Miller is one of the hottest names in the coaching industry after taking the Flyers on a deep run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, but he does lack a proven track record. Before becoming the head coach at Dayton, Miller was the associate head coach at Arizona under his brother, Sean. In three seasons at Dayton, Miller compiled a 63-38 record with one NCAA Tournament appearance.

Tim Miles - University of Nebraska

Tim Miles just led Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1998 season. He has built a lot of momentum with the Husker program. Will he want to leave that right now? In seven seasons as a head coach at Colorado State and Nebraska, Miles compiled a 105-119 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Matt Painter - Purdue University

Matt Painter was nearly the Mizzou coach three years ago when Frank Haith was ultimately hired. Would his familiarity with Mizzou and the interview process make him a more likely or less likely candidate? Painter's biggest downside in most eyes would be his $1,000,000-buyout and his back-to-back last place B1G finishes. Overall at Purdue, Painter is 191-112 with six NCAA tournament appearances in nine seasons.

Chris Mack - Xavier University

Chris Mack has had a solid run at Xavier in his five season at the helm. The Musketeers' record over that period is 111-57 with four NCAA tournament appearances.

Gregg Marshall - Wichita State University

In 16 years as a head coach at Winthrop and Wichita State, Greg Marshall has a combined record of 368-154 with ten NCAA Tournament appearances. Recently, though, he has guided the Shockers to the most successful seasons in school history. At this point, he has to be considered a long shot because of rebuffed offers from other programs, but Mizzou could at least reach out to him and make him say no.

Shaka Smart - Virginia Commonwealth University

In five years as VCU's head coach Shaka Smart has compiled a 137-46 record with four NCAA Tournament appearances. He has also turned down a number of high major jobs in favor of staying in Richmond. Smart is another apparent long shot that Mizzou could at least inquire about.

Frank Martin - University of South Carolina

Frank Martin is not last on this list because he is considered the least likely. He speaks incredibly highly of Mizzou every time he has coached in Columbia and has been in the Midwest before due to his tenure at K-State. It has been tough going for Martin at South Carolina, but overall for his seven year head coaching career he is 145-92 with four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Pretty sure 7 years, 20 million. Would get Miller on the first plane from Dayton to Columbia.....would more than cover any buyout

Why jump to Mizzou when a better job could open up in the next year or two?

He had a relatively young roster. Just signed a rather large extension for an A-10 school. The A10 is currently a better basketball conference right now. Plus the fan support is there. Fertile recruiting grounds in Ohio.

Are there any other jobs out there that might entice Marshall?

I think Missouri would be a possibility.
That’s always been a gold mine, in my opinion. It’s a school with tremendous resources that has never produced to the level of those resources. And it’s a fan base that would embrace Marshall and vice versa.
But Missouri has a coach – at least for now. Frank Haith, though, will be on a definite hot seat next season and if the Tigers don’t win, and win big, he could be in trouble.

That’s one of the few jobs out there I can think of that potentially could interest Marshall, who could be the second coming of Norm Stewart in Columbia. He has that kind of personalty, that kind of charisma.

I keep reading on PM, from the same idiots. That Mizzou wont pay a basketball coach the same or more than Pinkel.....why do these idiots think this?

Is there a chance Pinkel will quit because a coach in another sport is paid like him?
