If we were to measure a player by potential instead of what they accomplished, then Brodie Croyle is the greatest Alabama quarterback of all-time.
All right so now you guys are obviously just trying to derail the thread . . . Oh, and "Honk if you sacked Brodie"

Baseball for Bama probably Dave Magadan. That guy was one of the best hitters in cbb history. Wasnt quite the pro that he was in college though.
He did hit .329 on year in the majors. Tied (If I am not mistaken) for the batting title.
EDIT: actually .328, good for 3rd.

The argument that "well, he played two sports, that makes him automatically on another level" is a bad one, in my opinion.
But, in fairness to you, it makes sense to me to add his baseball career onto his football career and consider them as one single long career - meaning he has something like a 14-16 year career with two all-stars and multiple solid seasons. Hell, we can act like he had double the all-stars to account for his playing two sports at once.
Even with all that, his career wasn't all-time great. I know that's blasphemous to an Auburn fan, but it's true - he's on the same level as Chris Webber, Herschel Walker, etc. - guys who were good, but never lived up to their incredible potential. I'd take Aikman, L.T., Marcus Allen, and Tom Brady over Bo Jackson any and every day of the week.

I'm just saying that one should judge Bo Jackson by what he did on the field and not by what he could have done. What he did on the field was awesome, don't get me wrong, but the injury cut his career short and we never got to see what Jackson could really accomplish.

Exactly. We aren't talking about Jamarcus Russell, are we? Hell no. Or Ryan Leaf.

No. The only real argument that I've seen Auburn fans engage in regarding Bo is vs. Herschel and that's more out of fun and habit than anything

Once again, I'm not trying to diminish Bo's greatness. He was great. Really great.

I was joking in my response although Brodie Croyel was an awful example to use. How about Mark Ingram (& just for fun go ask the Saint Talk board about him

Then you will agree that Bo came up short in the NFL greatness litmus test as well.
Bo was nothing more than a highlight reel in the NFL. He only started 23 games and made 1 pro-bowl.

Cant speak for the entire fan base but no one describes his career as all-time great. Bo was a human highlight reel from high school through the pros and combine that with the Nike campaign, he takes on a larger than life status moreso than the other guys being named
Also regarding Brady, without Belichick and the Superbowls, would we have ever heard from him again once he left Michigan?

I was using Brodie Croyle as a sarcastic example. I was not being serious. Though there are those in the Alabama fan base who truly believe Brodie Croyle is the most talented QB Alabama has had since Joe Namath. He might very well have been but the guy was as brittle as a toothpick and played behind one of the worst offensive lines in the history of Alabama football. Even though he didn't put up the numbers, there are those among us who will argue Croyle to be a better QB than AJ McCarron.
Just to add my two cents: I think Croyle was the most over-hyped football player of the last decade. John Parker Wilson was better than he was.

Impressive if you ask me. How many players make the pro bowl with such a low number of starting games?

Im sure there's a record of solid players that have never made a pro bowl it's not a given that every good player will be selected
