If Cecil Newton is innocent, he needs to pull a trick from Tricky Dick and the Checkers speech and reveal all his finances to the public. Lay it all out there and go on offense. Until he does, everyone will assume he's trying to hide where the money went. Hope he didn't keep it in the freezer!

He already submitted all hi personal and Church records on finances to the NCAA a month ago...Done

Not saying its true or not but his church was broke and on the verge of being condemned and destroyed if he didn't make repairs. I'm not saying its true or not but if it was, that could be a big reason why.

We have motive and opportunity.

Now we just need the cash in the freezer.

As we all know, the NCAA is about as fast as a white man in slippers. The pressure is really on them now. It's late in the season, a top team has a one man circus act that has just slipped off the tight rope and everybody is looking at them to react. My long experience with them says don't hold your frickin' breath, it's going to be awhile, even if the shite's stinkin' all over the place. These motherfrickers take forever to do anything. I'd love to be in the president's office right now just to see those NCAA idiots sweatin' like a pigs next to the barn.

AU saying that "Cam is eligible to play at Auburn..."

Only amounts to...According to Auburn University, Cam can play. It's not an NCAA ruling. They are doing this, because their season all rests on him, whether he was/is eligible or not.

So? Reggie Bush's family sent their records in 3 years before they got in trouble. Just because he sent them in already doesn't mean shite.

while true..if they find something explosive before bowl season do you think they REALLY won't take action and let AU play for the BCS title? that would look pretty lame.

eta i would think $200k would be a little hard to hide..but that's just me. these people don't stike me as financial geniuses at hiding money.

Well, we'll know one day, Cecil turned over his church's books to the NCAA.

Over a month ago I might add. LOL at all the haters
then why would a story break? It's obvious there are more records/things that the NCAA is looking into. Face it, dude...this is some pretty serious shite...that's probably gonna cover a couple of other high-profile recruits. Wonder why the slow start in recruiting for 2011?

Exactly. Cam plays out the rest of the year. IF he's guilty, then Auburn will already be getting penalized at a later time for this season. 3 more games plus a postseason won't make any more difference at this point and more W's will keep the Au faithful happy at this moment in time.

Big difference between submitting records to the NCAA and going public. The NCAA probably made a lot of threats to intimidate Cecil into turning over what he did. But going public and turning records over to newspapers or ESPN.com would be a great PR move for Cecil just as the Checkers speech was for Nixon. Innocent people who go on offense are more than happy to show the media they have nothing to hide. And going public with the records would help him paint a picture that the NCAA was unfairly tarring and feathering a humble preacher man with meager means.

Of course, no sane person would record a $200k transaction like that on their books. So turning the books over to the NCAA proves nothing. If the dude learned anything from Louisiana politicians, you work on a strictly cash basis. Stored in a safe deposit box (freezer) and delivered in Hefty bags, of course. That's how we pay our madams on Canal Street.

Anonymous donations in the church's offering plate would be easy to hide.

JMO - there is motive an opportunity for someone to pay off Newton indirectly to prop up the failing church... so yes the story seems credible

But seeming credible is not enough and to bust it open they would need someone with insider information and an axe to grind to prove it I would think.... it's fine if people from other schools say Cam was demanding a handout - but unless you have someone like an angry agent with proof of dirt I guess I'm not sure the story will end up being provable

What says the peanut gallery?

if this guy is as poor as he claims, i bet he's already goofed up and spent some of the money no matter how well coached he was in stuffing it in ziplocs, etc.

again, this is a huge *IF*. if there's a pay-off here, i think it will get sniffed out pretty quick. none of the players here seem like they're practiced at the art of hiding $200,000.00

I think it might just be Saban's football strategy. Put a cloud on AU right before Signing Day to scare off recruits. And if you can't rattle Cam on the field then rattle him off the field and hope his head is not in the game.
