It could be that Butch was given three choices:

1) Fired effective immediately

2) Step down ("decline" to stay)

3) Write "I am a pussy" 100 times in front of the team.

What's fed to the media doesn't always reflect what actually happens behind closed doors.

This is one hell of a turnaround by Mizzou to close out the season. I can't remember witnessing such a thing in the past.

Smart move on Butch's part - he gets an early start now on preparing for his next head coaching job at another major college program...

Vol Fans I accept your thanks to Mizzou for putting the last bullet into both of your last two shitty coaches.

For two games he's the belle of the ball. We don't care about this season just that Butch is gone.

I guess I can understand. Getting hammered by Missouri should be a sign to any coach that he just isn't cut out for the job.

Crazy thing is, our coach will most likely get fired after losing to Mizzou too.

Not sure how I'd feel about that as a Mizzou fan.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out for UT. Firing a coach who was rebuilding after back to back 9-4 records, in the midst of a season with a lot of injuries.

Doesn't look good. Will be interesting to see how that affects potential candidates.

I mean, wouldn't you rather go to a bowl game?

I don't think that's even possible. Who are we going to beat? If we beat Vandy that would put us at 5-7 and even with new rules I don't know that our APR is high enough to go to one of those 'lower than the toilet' bowls. We're talking about the 125th ranked offense in CFB and we're down to no linemen and a 3rd string QB. This team is the worst we've fielded in 100 years (CBJ managed to out-Dooley Dooley this season). Yes they're still physically talented but they're underdeveloped as players and soft. Hoke isn't going to fix that in a week.

That said, I DO wonder if some of the players that have been injured miraculously heal now that CBJ is gone.
