@NickCarboniWBIR: Stephen Pearl pretty emotional outside visitors locker room. Had clearly been crying.

His kid comes across as a bitch.

Stephen is a good dude. So is Bruce who was also crying. Don't hate just because things ended in a way that neither party wanted. That's gonna happen when the coach doesn't want to go and the fans don't want him to go either.
Bruce will still do a good job at Auburn and he will work hard for you. No reason to be jelly.

Played in a golf tourney w/ Steven and some other guy that played golf at UT this past summer. Both were pretty good guys it seemed.

He's quite the drama queen and apparently it's hereditary.

Not jealous. I just remember some story on here about him acting like an arse on twitter. And crying on his dad's shoulder because this shitty team lost a game comes across as whiny.

Yeah, that's why he was crying
Was Bruce crying because you lost too?

I think you're misinformed.

Steven def. is a good one. People getting upset because he was emotional don't get it - he was a student and played for UT basketball. And was enrolled at UT for grad school. Of course, returning is gonna be emotional. Like his dad he's a VFL. This is his alma mater for heaven's sake.
Doesn't mean they both won't do their damnedest to whip our asses but there's always gonna be love there.

What other reason is there? They wanted to come in and beat the team that fired his dad.
FFS, his post game comments say as much, but you all keep conveniently keep ignoring them.

Prof I am not trying to single you out, but why do you guys seem to care if someone is a Vol for life? It reeks of feeling needed or wanted. Anyone would have emotions about a place they had been previous, esp if they had success. Instead of saying Pearl has an emotional game coming back to Tennessee, it turns into a "He likes us better than you" pissing contest.

For me, it's not about caring/needing. Being a VFL is just a thing here - lot's of folks (people no one knows about) are VFLs.
As to Bruce, even after he was hired by Auburn he called himself a Vol For Life. Those are his words not mine.
And I don't see it as he like us better, it's more that once it gets into your system it's there forever. I admit I was teasing that one poster a bit because he seemed so angry but I was also teasing him with the truth. Plenty of coaches, I wouldn't label as VFLs but Pearl is definitely one.
Hope that makes sense.

Weird ex-girlfriend syndrome by the Vol fanbase.

Yes it does. I know our teams are somewhat a way of life for each of us, with some taking it to an extreme more than others. I just haven't heard anyone else use that phrase. Nothing against it unless it is being shoved in someone's face. Which you certainly do not do.

Thanks and yeah I agree. Sometimes affiliations with our respective universities become a way of life for fans, coaches, students, faculty etc. - a big part of our identities. Universities are there own worlds and communities and for those on campus, especially it makes a lot of sense but it extends to others too.
Believe it or not, it was the name of an actual program started by Dooley to help players with general life skills and such (the one good thing he did). The phrase/term immediately took off though and the actual Vol For Life program being the origin has been forgotten by most and obviously the meaning changed. It just described things so well. I suppose it's proof that even idiots like Dooley can strike gold even if it's in an inadvertent way.
