Following my sound logic, Notre Dame, which claims 11 national titles, has no legit titles

You should grant them the 1973 title. They were ranked #3 going in to the Sugar Bowl vs #1 Alabama, whom they beat 24-23. But keep in mind #2 Oklahoma was on probation an ineligible for a bowl.

Chicken, you math flatters Alabama more than any math our administration could possibly do. Thank you.

Why doesn't 96 count for us? That was a title game for both teams at kickoff.

Edit: I meant to quote Chicken.

In 1961, Bama did not play No. 2 Ohio State in bowl game...

Florida was not No. 2 when you faced Florida State in the Sugar Bowl...

So this is entirely based on games between #1 and #2, which would lead to the majority of seasons prior to 1992 not even having champions?

I look forward to the future piece suggesting all non-playoff claims are invalid.

So who won it in 1961 and 1996?

Using his logic, 03 doesn't count for LSU because their bowl game wasn't #1 vs. #2.
