I am curious to what is going on. Bama fans say they are taking a small class due to having a young team. That is all well and fine, but if that is the case why are you taking a small class of majority 3 stars? Why not take a small class of 4-5 stars?
It doesn't really matter anymore. There will likely be some rather large changes to how recruiting and things are looked at in the future. In the past you needed to have a good class because they were going to be your starters in 3 years. Losing scholarships was a big deal because it hurt you 3 to 4 years down the line with the lack of developed players.
That doesn't mean shite anymore.
All I know is our class is where it is pretty much on purpose. Why and to what end I do not know. Maybe they are looking to hit the portal hard. Maybe they expect flips. Maybe they want the season to play out in high school so they can evaluate and get lower rated guys who can develop more in years while not costing much. I have no clue, but whatever they are doing it's for a reason.
Not that it would change Alabama's current ranking much, but overall I think the recruiting ranks will need to be reworked soon if the free agency continues. A 5 star true freshman is likely over-valued right now while a 3 star 5 year veteran is likely under-valued. Use to be you got the 5 star, developed him and got a year or 2 out of him before he went to the NFL. Now you rebuy him every year or you wasted a bunch of money.
Maybe with 105 max roster we'll see something from back in the old days where you would stock up on a ton of freshman and then cut most of them at the end of the year. Pick among the guys who put the work in and all that shite.
