What games will define both teams seasons, giving one a chance to jump start theirs and perhaps plummeting the others? Some examples from last year : Auburn beating LSU saved Gus' job and fired Les, Vanderbilt winning in Athens, Florida winning in Baton Rouge

My picks

Week 3 - LSU @ Mississippi State
Week 3 - Kansas State @ Vanderbilt
Week 4 - Mississippi State @ Georgia
Week 4 - Arkansas vs Texas A&M
Week 5 - Georgia @ Tennessee
Week 7 - Auburn @ LSU

How is the State game defining for us?

I have seen this multiple times on here.

What am I missing?

If State wins, it's defining for them as a huge early season win and marks them as a team to be reckoned with. If LSU loses, it's a "oh boy, here we go" moment for Coach O.

The swing of it is State winning. If LSU wins, it's just another game. Same logic applies to the UGA/State game.

Is State supposed to be good?

I know nothing about them this year.

Do people think they have a chance here?

Thought about it but it's so early either could lose, beat Georgia and still be in good shape

They've got an electric QB and should be improved, the game is in Starkville and it's early

I completely forgot how badass Fitzgerald is.

Dude can play.

Might have a chance at the O'Brien Award.

Normally I would disagree but I agree 100% on this year. We have our bye the week before this and it is going to be crucial to get this win if we want to have a good season. Getting those wins at the end of the year and having the bye so early are going to be tough.

We are also replacing a lot on defense this year.

We will be replacing five starters in the defensive front seven, two in the secondary plus Ricky Jefferson and Thomas who saw a ton of playing time.

Agreed. This is one of the most important games of Bert's tenure at Arkansas. Another loss to A&M and, barring an amazing run down the home stretch, Bert moves solidly into the fired/needs a jaw dropping next year to still be employed.

Nailed it. Much respect for actually picking the right game. Assuming wins against MTSU (confident but not overlooking) and Alabama A&M (only worried if e-mails are involved), the chance to go 3-0 into the Alabama, @Florida, Georgia, and @Ole Miss gauntlet is huge. The schedule isn't soft after that, but only needing 3 wins from the last 9 games to go bowling again, which is the minimum this year to not label the season as a disappointment, is a huge opportunity.

QB is only 1 player and one player doesn't win games by himself. Look at Ole Miss last year...very good QB...no run game and no defense = mediocre team. You cant win throwing 45-50 passes a game in the SEC.

Except Ole Miss was pretty good early until injuries decimated them because of poor depth. State also gave LSU a run for their money last year and had the ball with a chance to win in the 4th.

States offense should be pretty dang good. Defense is the question mark.

Fitzgerald is going to get his.

How is it not?
You win the West....you win the SEC....you play in championship game...or go to final four...
Pretty simple

And Paul Finebaum said so!
