I would say average. They are not as bad as they played last weekend, except our tackling needs to get a lot better.
We were out a good number of players last game, esp in the secondary.
Up until last game, our defense has scored a TD three weeks in a row. Actually, our defense did block a PAT and returned it for 2 pts. So they do have the ability to make big plays, but still very average.

You are going to get rocked Saturday.
I do however think you'll make this series as good as it once was really, really soon.
Matter ofmfact, I think your program will eclipse the longhorns within a few years as THE Texas college destination.

I'll take Johnny Football for 100, Alex.

The big secret is Johnny Football will actually play both ways against LSU and do his best Honey Badger impression. Dude had 2 Tackles and a forced fumble on one play against La Tech.
In truth I agree the best chance to get Manziel is when he is running and to take a "headhunter" shot at him. A&M has an excellent OL that specializes in pass blocking. Not saying LSU can't get to Manziel but it won't be easy, especially with how instinctive and slippery he is. Sacks happen but they are usually more of the wrap up tackle variety and not the bone crushing hit style. Dude is a tough and cocky SOB in fantastic shape as well, he's not easy to intimidate. LSU is capable though.

I'd say 2.
He's no faster than Keke mingo. He can and will be contained.

Our tackling and secondary lackluster performance is generally on Dustin Harris the kid is horrific at playing his position.

Better than advertised, but not by that much. Right now, we're sitting a #72 in total defense, and that's after playing 3 teams in the top 50 in total offense (and one who is in the top 10). Compare that to a team like LSU that hasn't played a single offense inside the top 80 on offense.
Plus, we were missing a couple of huge players in the secondary in the La Tech game that would have been helpful in curtailing that disaster.
I'd say A&M has the ability to be a top 50 defense, but that's about it. Not near the caliber of a Florida, LSU, or Alabama team, but good enough to give us a chance to win games with our offense.

I was joking man, but I do think Manziel can make plays on any defense, just like he did against Florida.
The difference is those plays are going to be limited and if he understands how to play within those limitations, we have a shot to win.
I do appreciate the sentiments. Things feel eerily similar to when Mack took over in Austin. RC Slocum ran the state for a long time but started to slide and then Mack happened. Now, Mack has really lost his luster and Sumlin is a new fresh face in a shiny new conference. Not going to count my chickens, but I like the direction of things.

I'm not saying LSU has played a bunch of offensive juggernauts, but citing statistical rankings is always flawed by the fact that those rankings include the game against the team in question, i.e., against LSU's defense.

That sucks. Kid is a heck of a player.

That's what Ole Miss did 55 out of 60 minutes. We started getting aggressive in the last 5 and he ran all over us.

Undoubtedly correct. I was actually making the same point in another thread where people were saying A&M hadn't seen a real defense yet based on total defense rankings.
But, with 5 games (and 6 games for most), the statistical significance of the one game against the team in question is diminished.
But yes, are the defenses A&M has played viewed as poor defenses because they had to face A&M's offense as one of their 5-6 games, and are the offenses that LSU has played viewed poorly because they have faced LSU's stacked defense as part of their 5-6 games? Valid indictment of using total defense/offense as the end all be all here.

Program wise, Texas is in a 3 year downswing, they are really, really not good.

A&M is #37 in defensive yards per play. They're not bad. A quick strike offense always inflates the yard totals for the D.

Why is piggie so obsessed with A&M. Literally, almost every A&M thread is started by a pig.
