Corridor X/US 78 to Birmingham
I-65 South to Montgomery
In Montgomery take the exit to I-85 north/Atlanta (don't know the exit # off hand)
Exit Wire Road (exit # 47 I think it is) off 85.
Left across the interstate and follow Wire Road until you see either A) stadium or B) shite ton of folks parking everywhere.

Because the state of Alabama doesn't build "4-lane roads to nowhere"?
Looks like they don't like doing road work period. Seems like they've been reworking I 20 from Birmingham to Georgia for over 10 years.

Sure if you want to add an extra 40 miles to your trip. Hasn't ANYBODY on this board ever heard of Highway 280? I hardly ever frickin go to Auburn and even I know that's the quickest way. Other than the brief stretch of 280 in metro Bham, that drive is plenty quick and a lovely drive to boot.
I've never heard of anyone from Bham going I-65 to Montgomery and then on to I-85 when going to Auburn. You literally add 40 miles one way to the trip. Makes absolutely ZERO sense.

78 to Bham. I65 south until you smell it. Take a left and go until you step in it.

Know plenty of people that do the I-65 route. Yeah, it may be 40 miles longer but you don't have to put up with nearly as much traffic, red lights and small towns.

That work would have been done long ago if not for the ridiculous amount of blasting through solid rock and mountain reshaping that has to be done to make room for an additional lane, and all the new bridge work. Thats a bastard of a project.

I can understand going that route if you live in Calera or maybe Alabaster but it doesn't really make sense to me if you live within Jefferson County. Highway 280 isn't anywhere nearly as bad (once you pass Chelsea) a hassle with stops (Childersburg and Alex City aren't that bad stop wise) as some other 4 lane highways in Alabama. I guess I'm use to getting into town for games with hours to spare. Maybe I-65 IS better but I can't see how it's any quicker.
"Thats a bastard of a project."
Exactly. Highway projects in the hilly rugged areas of northern and east central Alabama are a lot more complicated than relatively flat Mississippi and Louisiana. Road building is much more complicated.
