Did Larry Munson ever actually say if it was good?

I don't believe he did. The call:

'So we'll try to kick one 100,000 miles. We're holding it on our own 49 and a half...gonna try to kick it 60 yards...plus a foot and a half! And Butler kicks a long one...a long one...Oh my God!! Oh my God!! The stadium is worse than bonkers! I can't believe what he did! Eleven seconds! This is un-Godly!'

I love that the first reply is empirical evidence of the best SEC kicker and yet it has 5 downvotes and everyone is arguing below it.

Would you say the best running back is the guy who has the most yards per carry?

Not a great comparison.

The only job a FG kicker has is to make FGs.

They are already requiring a minimum of 50 FGs in the stats, so that rules out any one-hit wonders.

It's stupid when you realize Jasper had less than half the career attempts of Carlson, and probably didn't attempt 1/10th the 50+ yarders that Carlson did

it’s an almost identical comparison.

. And the job of a running back is to rush for yards. And yards per rush is their stat just like makes vs misses in fgs

And if the only job of a kicker is to kick field goals and extra points shouldn’t overall totals be more of the judge?

Don't blame Jasper that your offense couldn't get it in the end zone.

I'm just blaming him for not being as good of a kicker to warrant more opportunities, especially from long range

Jasper's highest total of extra points in a season was 36, Carlson's lowest in any of his seasons was 40...

It's hard to blame a kicker for not getting opportunities to kick field goals when he's too busy kicking PATs.

Except Carlson's worst season had more TD's/PAT's than Jasper's best...

Well then, don't blame the kicker for his offenses inability to cross the 50 yard line.

The point is that it's stupid to blame a kicker for not kicking more, there are too many factors outside of his control. All he can do is put it through when called upon to do so. Some do it at a higher rate than others.

Cade Foster gets my vote as best PK.

And Greg Gantt as best punter.

Just like I asked the other guy, do you think yards per carry is the best judge of a running back? Also, like someone stated, he may have not been called on because of his lack of range as well...attempting only 7 over 50 vs DC 21. or only 16 from 40-50 vs 29. Easy to inflate your stats with easy kicks

Not exactly skill but I remember the Georgia Clemson game around 83. tie game which was still allowed and one tema had ball on 50 with about 10 secs left. They try and miss the 67 yarder but a few seconds left so ref turns ball 180 degrees and the other tries and missed 67 yarder. Georgia kicker was Butler - no idea who the other was but back to back 67 yarders is unique
