We are going to T-town on Thursday and looking to play some golf Friday afternoon after we grab out tailgate spot. What is the best course to play in T-town?

Ole Colony is probably what your looking for. I would say its the best public course. That or Capstone Club, but its up the highway a bit.

Northriver, but it's a private course. Try Ol' Colony, it's nice. The Capstone is pretty nice too, it's a bit of a drive too.

Thanks, i was looking at Capstone but don't fell like driving all that far. I'll give Ol Colony a look.

Ol' Colony is a lot nicer than Capstone Club. Last time I played Capstone it was pretty bad, one reason why the University moved their home course to Ol'Colony.

I played Capstone in 06 or so. I thought it was on par with OC. It must have gotten worse.

Northriver Yacht Club is by far the prettiest/nice course in the area but as other have pointed out it's private. Having said that, I think you can get on there if you're staying in the Lodge out there.
Ol' Colony is probably the best public course in the heart of town. Jerry Pate design that's usually in really good shape. Besides those, the Bham area has a handful of really nice enjoyable public courses including the 2 RTJ sites Ross Bridge and Oxmoor Valley, Ballantrae in Pelham, Farm Links in Sylacauga, and one of my personal favorites Limestone Springs in Oneonta.

Old Colony is great for a public course, but it is usually very crowded. Get a tee time and be patient. Capstone Club sucks the first few times you play it due to a high number of blind shots. Once you get some course knowledge it is a fun course. The drive out isn't that bad IMO.
ETA: Haven't played either in many years. Capstone used to be the far superior course, but it never took off (membership wise)and changed management a time or two. Not sure how the maintenance is out there now. A little surprised it is still up and running.

I love the valley. Always in great shape, like all RTJ courses. The judge down in Montgomery is an awesome course as well. Hole #1 is insane.

Agree on Ol Colony. Best public course there. Only played Capstone twice but both times they were having major issues with the grass on the greens. Couple of years ago so probably have that fixed but regardless Ol Colony is the best public option in the area

I've played both as recently as August. Both were in really good shape.
I just personally don't like Capstone. I'm not very good (shoot in the 90s) so Capstone is pretty challenging.
I've probably played Ol' Colony upwards of 100 times. I like it better than any of the Country Clubs in Tuscaloosa.

Ol'Colony has a event. Capstone is closed for that friday. Unfortunately we are playing Hidden Meadows. The rest are private except the Links.
