you really didn't want to play Miami in the early 2000's and you don't want to play Oregon when they're NC contenders.

LSU @ AU in 06, it was like two hammers hitting each other over and over again.

Really, from a national championship perspective, nothing touches LSU vs Alabama, though.

Just about every FSU/Miami game affected or determined the NC for about a 5-6 year period. Double Bama/FSU.

Miami/ND, FSU/ND, FL/FSU, all of those teams played multiple games that determined the eventual NC.

AU/FSU and AU/UF had some games as yearly rivals in the 80's and 1990 that prevented either AU or FSU from playing for the NC.

OU/Neb in the 80's.

TX/OU games the past two decades.

Michigan/ND back in the 80's, 90's.

Michigan/OSU.

Bama/LSU recently is of no more historically significance over the last 3 decades than about 10 different matchups of different teams that played annually that determined NC or NC opportunities multiple times for BOTH teams.

LSU vs Florida produced three straight NCs.

Only one of the games was good though.

I miss the AU/UF games. There were a lot with NC/SEC titles on the line in each of the past 3 decades with most of the games played in November.

Times AU or UF entered the game with a top 5 ranking and at shot at the NC the pasat few decades.

1983 (Top 5 matchup AU NC)
1984 (FL best team in county, but no NC due to sanctions)
1985 (#2 vs #5)
1986 (Probably cost AU a shot at the NC)
1990 (Cost undefeated AU a #2 ranking late in the season)
1993 (Maybe cost UF a NC)
1994 (Cost UF a NC title game apperance)
2001 (Cost UF a NC shot)
2006 (Only loss of NC Gators)
2007 (Cost UF a shot at NC instead of LSU)

Lot of lost NC opportunities from AU/UF matchups over the past few decades with a LOT of upsets and lost NC opportunities. Sorta dwarfs LSU/UA over the past 3 decades.

I am home.

Bama/LSU matchup has not effected as many NCs as AU/UF the past 3 decades. More big games played between AU/UF in that time than Bama/LSU, even though AU/UF have not played annually since 2002.

Don't you have to be a powerhouse to have a powerhouse collision?

Officially, no.

I believe AU should however as it is a legit claim and AU has a stronger claim to the title than any other team in the country that year.

Not too worried about it. Used to piss me off, now I just claim it.

Besides, those that know college football know AU was the NC in 1983 and more selectors named AU the national champion in 1983 than any other team (Miami included), so I'm fine with it. AU was the NC in 1983 though Miami can continue to claim the AP. They had a good (but not great) year with a huge OB win.

I think you would have to drop about 6 of them though if you only want to claim legit titles where bama has a stronger claim than any other team in the country in a given year.

That is the only reason I claim 1983 for AU. AU had the strongest claim in the country for the 1983 title.
