Whatever.... UGA has three, 1942, 1980 and 2021, here your answer for 42;

The 1942 Bulldogs got their due in the form of nine championship selectors choosing them over the Buckeyes. Only five selectors chose Ohio State. Which is why Georgia boasts the 1942 title instead of the others. That’s considered the consensus National Championship, because the Dawgs were the consensus pick.

OSU did not play in a bowl game, UGA won the Rose bowl and were 11-0 to OSU 9-0

UGA ARE 1942 NATIONAL CHAMPS, NOT OSU.

You can argue about 10 different coaches for those 5 spots. It’s nearly impossible to compare across different eras.

Then Woody won 5 titles. Your logic.

Are you obtuse???

HAYES won 3 consensus Natties (54, 57, 68), the "other 2 were NOT consensus"

He was a great coach, should not be in anyone's top 5 all-time though, just not good enough.

Here is a link from an OSU fansite that clearly says 3 CONSENSUS national titles.

If AP/Coaches only count for Woody than they also only count for UGA. Your logic.

No arguing with a retard I guess, think what you want, Hayes simply not in the top 5 coaches of all-time, win% not good enough and a ludicrous stain on his legacy by punching an opposing player eliminates him from consideration.

Have a nice day, lulz...

being a prisoner of the moment would be having this conversation around 2015. I think the "moment" has gone on long enough to safely call it. There really isn't anything you can point to that would make bryant better. He played in an era were pretty much every offense in the country did the same thing and without scholarship restrictions he could recruit hundreds of guys simply so they wouldn't play for other teams. Saban has a more accomplished record, despite much tighter restrictions, against far tougher national competition.

Would have been interesting to see how he could have done at a major university. He was a great one, for sure.

Yep, imo it's Saban #1 (.880 winning % at Bammer)

Bear #2 (.808 winning % at Bammer)

Both with 6 Natties at Bammer but Saban has the 1 at LSU for a total of 7

Slightly better resume for Saban, imo

And Saban has to deal with MUCH more parity.

Interesting.

I am not getting in the middle fo this but all of Georgia's were consensu titles, so I'm not sure why his remark is interesting.

Ftr, I really liked Woody Hayes. I think he should at least be considered. He guided Ohio State back when the B1G was probably the premier conference in football.

I also don't think Paterno or Hayes should be eliminated issues unrelated to coaching.
Those issues, while deplorable in one case and bad in the other have nothing to do with how well they coached a football team.

Urban Meyer gets crucified for issues that were FAR less severe than what Paterno did.

Saban, Bryant and Bowden are no brainers. After that it's debatable, if you discount the troubles he had at the end Paterno probably deserves consideration along with Hayes and Osborne. A few others could be considered to

Urban Meyer is a great coach

.854 win %
187-32
3 Natties

Definitely in consideration for a spot in the top 5.

His resume is REALLY frackin good.
