Because there are alot of goobers on said forum that feel that the athletic success of their school defines everything. Bringing up academics is an attempt to show that there are other things to define your life. Then there are the hangers-on who didnt go to any of the schools that muck up the discussion.

4/16 schools in the SEC are AAU members (Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt)
3/15 schools in the SEC are Public Ivy (Florida, Georgia, and Texas) *Vanderbilt not eligible as the lone private ranger
So basically given the lack of athletic success it is the one thing y'all can lord over the bulk of the SEC except for Florida, Texas, Vanderbilt, and Georgia.
Just call a spade a spade
