It's not like it used to be. These days punters are taught how to put a backspin on the ball so that happens. It still takes plenty of skill but it's a science now that has improved by leaps and bounds over the last decade or so. One of the reasons the coffin corner kick was replaced -- it became too risky with less payoff since the backspin started being used to make balls do that.
