I've seen more slips at Pasadena than I can ever recall seeing. Happened during the Rose Bowl too. And has really happened at most of the BCS bowls this year. I think they're a little too concerned with pretty grass. A beat up field with better roots isn't as slippery even though it poses some issues I think they're probably overblown - they do well for High School and even poorer D1 teams all the time without much issue.
This may be an issue that continues in the future with the play-offs being the way they are.
